The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 10th November 1880 Jacob Epstein was born to Max Jarogenski aka Epstein and Mary Solomon at 102 Hester Street, Lower East Side. He was the third of eight children that survived to adulthood.
In 1906 Jacob Epstein (age 25) and Margaret Dunlop were married.
1942. "Deidre" by Jacob Epstein (age 61). Bought by the trustees of the Lady Lever Art Gallery [Map] in 1948. Deirdre was Epstein's family cook and housekeeper from 1939-42 whom he sculpted three times.

In June 1955 Jacob Epstein (age 74) and Kathleen Garman (age 54) were married at Fulham Register Office. She had been his partner since 1921. The difference in their ages was 20 years.
On 21st August 1959 Jacob Epstein (age 78) died.
In August 1979 [his former wife] Kathleen Garman (age 78) died.
