William of Worcester's Chronicle of England
William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 19th May 1834 [her father] George Edgecumbe [aged 33] and [her mother] Fanny Lucy Shelley [aged 23] were married. He the son of [her grandfather] Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe [aged 69] and [her grandmother] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe.
On 17th February 1839 Caroline Cecelia Edgecumbe Countess Revensworth and Mount Edgecumbe was born to [her father] George Edgecumbe [aged 38] and [her mother] Fanny Lucy Shelley [aged 28].
On 26th October 1858 [her future husband] William Henry Edgecumbe 4th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe [aged 24] and Katherine Elizabeth Hamilton Countess Mount Edgcumbe [aged 18] were married. She the daughter of James Hamilton 1st Duke of Abercorn [aged 47] and Louisa Jane Russell Duchess Abercorn [aged 46]. He the son of [her uncle] Ernest Augustus Edgecumbe 3rd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe [aged 61].
On 3rd September 1861 [her uncle] Ernest Augustus Edgecumbe 3rd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe [aged 64] died. His son [her future husband] William [aged 27] succeeded 4th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, 5th Baron Edgcumbe. Katherine Elizabeth Hamilton Countess Mount Edgcumbe [aged 21] by marriage Countess of Mount Edgcumbe.
On 9th October 1866 Atholl Liddell 3rd Earl of Ravensworth [aged 33] and Caroline Cecelia Edgecumbe Countess Revensworth and Mount Edgecumbe [aged 27] were married. He the son of Henry Thomas Liddell 1st Earl Ravensworth [aged 69] and Isabella Horatia Seymour.
On 19th March 1878 [her father-in-law] Henry Thomas Liddell 1st Earl Ravensworth [aged 81] died. His son [her brother-in-law] Henry [aged 56] succeeded 2nd Earl Ravensworth, 3rd Baron Ravensworth of Ravensworth Castle in County Durham, 8th Baronet Liddell of Ravensworth Castle.
On 18th February 1885 [her father] George Edgecumbe [aged 84] died.
On 11th May 1899 [her mother] Fanny Lucy Shelley [aged 88] died.
On 22nd July 1903 [her brother-in-law] Henry Liddell 2nd Earl of Ravensworth [aged 81] died. His brother [her husband] Atholl [aged 69] succeeded 3rd Earl Ravensworth, 4th Baron Ravensworth of Ravensworth Castle in County Durham, 9th Baronet Liddell of Ravensworth Castle. Caroline Cecelia Edgecumbe Countess Revensworth and Mount Edgecumbe [aged 64] by marriage Countess Ravensworth.
On 7th February 1904 [her husband] Atholl Liddell 3rd Earl of Ravensworth [aged 70] died. Earl Ravensworth extinct. His first cousin Arthur [aged 66] succeeded 5th Baron Ravensworth of Ravensworth Castle in County Durham, 10th Baronet Liddell of Ravensworth Castle. Sophia Harriett Waller Baroness Ravensworth by marriage Baroness Ravensworth of Ravensworth Castle in County Durham.

Atholl Liddell 3rd Earl of Ravensworth: On 6th August 1833 he was born to Henry Thomas Liddell 1st Earl Ravensworth and Isabella Horatia Seymour. He a great x 4 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland. On 9th October 1866 Atholl Liddell 3rd Earl of Ravensworth and Caroline Cecelia Edgecumbe Countess Revensworth and Mount Edgecumbe were married. He the son of Henry Thomas Liddell 1st Earl Ravensworth and Isabella Horatia Seymour. On 22nd July 1903 Henry Liddell 2nd Earl of Ravensworth died. His brother Atholl succeeded 3rd Earl Ravensworth, 4th Baron Ravensworth of Ravensworth Castle in County Durham, 9th Baronet Liddell of Ravensworth Castle. On 21st April 1906 William Henry Edgecumbe 4th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe [aged 72] and Caroline Cecelia Edgecumbe Countess Revensworth and Mount Edgecumbe [aged 67] were married. She by marriage Countess of Mount Edgcumbe. He the son of Ernest Augustus Edgecumbe 3rd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe. They were first cousins.
On 23rd February 1909 Caroline Cecelia Edgecumbe Countess Revensworth and Mount Edgecumbe [aged 70] died.
Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke
Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.
