Chronicle of Abbot Ralph of Coggeshall

Biography of Charles Abney-Hastings 2nd Baronet 1792-1858

Paternal Family Tree: Hastings

On 1st October 1792 Charles Abney-Hastings 2nd Baronet was born to [his father] Charles Hastings 1st Baronet (age 40) and [his mother] Parnel Abney.

On 25th February 1806 [his father] Charles Hastings 1st Baronet (age 53) was created 1st Baronet Hastings of Willesley Hall in Derbyshire.

Before September 1823 [his father] Charles Hastings 1st Baronet (age 71) and [his mother] Parnel Abney were married. He the illegitmate son of [his grandfather] Francis Hastings 10th Earl Huntingdon.

In September 1823 [his father] Charles Hastings 1st Baronet (age 71) committed suicide. His son Charles (age 30) succeeded 2nd Baronet Hastings of Willesley Hall in Derbyshire.

On 1st December 1823 Charles Abney-Hastings 2nd Baronet (age 31) adopted the additional surname Abney by Royal Licence.

In 1825 Charles Abney-Hastings 2nd Baronet (age 32) was appointed High Sheriff of Derbyshire.

In 1826 Charles Abney-Hastings 2nd Baronet (age 33) was elected MP Leicester which seat he held until 1831.

The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy

The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. Originally penned in Latin by the monk William of Jumièges shortly before 1060 and later expanded at the behest of William the Conqueror, the work chronicles the deeds, politics, battles, and leadership of the Norman dukes, especially William’s own claim to the English throne. On 30th July 1858 Charles Abney-Hastings 2nd Baronet (age 65) died. Baronet Hastings of Willesley Hall in Derbyshire extinct. His estates of Blackfordby and Packington were inherited by Henry 4th Marquess Hastings (age 16). Willesley Hall and its estate were left to Edith Maud Rawdon-Hastings 10th Countess Loudon (age 24) and her husband Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings 1st Baron Donington (age 36) who changed his surname to Abney-Hastings.
