The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." Biography of Charles Crispe 5th Baronet 1680-1740

Paternal Family Tree: Crispe

On 30th April 1674 [his father] Nicholas Crispe 2nd Baronet (age 31) and [his mother] Judith Adrian Lady Crispe were married. She by marriage Lady Crispe of Hammersmith in Middlesex.

Around 1680 Charles Crispe 5th Baronet was born to Nicholas Crispe 2nd Baronet (age 37) and Judith Adrian Lady Crispe.

In November 1698 [his father] Nicholas Crispe 2nd Baronet (age 55) died. He was buried at St Mildred's Church, Bread Street. His son [his brother] John (age 22) succeeded 3rd Baronet Crispe of Hammersmith in Middlesex.

Between 8th February 1699, the date of her will, and 2nd May 1700, the date her will was proved, [his mother] Judith Adrian Lady Crispe died. She was buried with her husband at St Mildred's Church, Bread Street.

In 1715 Charles Crispe 5th Baronet (age 35) was appointed High Sheriff of Oxfordshire.

Before 2nd June 1718 Charles Crispe 5th Baronet (age 38) and Anne Crispe (age 33) were married. They were half first cousin once removed.

On 2nd June 1718 [his wife] Anne Crispe (age 33) died.

On 27th October 1721 Charles Crispe 5th Baronet (age 41) was elected MP New Woodstock at a by-election which seat he held until 1722.

The Deeds of King Henry V, or in Latin Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

On 1st June 1730 Nicholas Crispe 4th Baronet (age 12) died unmarried. His uncle Charles (age 50) succeeded 5th Baronet Crispe of Hammersmith in Middlesex.
