Biography of Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton 1661-1722

On 28th February 1652 [his father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 22) and Christian Freschville (age 18) were married. He the son of [his grandfather] John Paulet 5th Marquess Winchester (age 54) and [his grandmother] Jane Savage Marchioness Winchester.

On 12th February 1655 Henry Carey and [his mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester were married at St Dionis Backchurch. She the illegitmate daughter of [his grandfather] Emanuel Scrope 1st Earl of Sunderland and [his grandmother] Martha Jeanes. He the son of Henry Carey 2nd Earl Monmouth (age 59) and Martha Cranfield Countess Monmouth (age 54). They were second cousins.

On 12th February 1655 [his father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 25) and [his mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester were married. She the illegitmate daughter of [his grandfather] Emanuel Scrope 1st Earl of Sunderland and [his grandmother] Martha Jeanes. He the son of [his grandfather] John Paulet 5th Marquess Winchester (age 57) and [his grandmother] Jane Savage Marchioness Winchester. They were fourth cousin once removed.

In 1661 Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton was born to [his father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 31) and [his mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester.

In 1667 [his father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 37) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.

On 2nd April 1673 [his brother-in-law] John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater (age 26) and [his sister] Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 17) were married at St Dionis Backchurch. She the daughter of [his father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 43) and [his mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester. He the son of John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater (age 49) and Elizabeth Cavendish Countess Bridgewater. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 5th March 1675 [his grandfather] John Paulet 5th Marquess Winchester (age 77) died. His son [his father] Charles (age 45) succeeded 6th Marquess Winchester, 6th Earl Wiltshire, 6th Baron St John. [his mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester by marriage Marchioness Winchester.

On 10th July 1679 Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 18) and Margaret Coventry (age 22) were married. He the son of Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 49) and Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester. They were third cousins.

On 1st November 1680 [his mother] Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester died.

On 7th February 1682 [his wife] Margaret Coventry (age 24) died.

On 8th February 1683 Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 22) and Frances Ramsden were married. His second marriage. He the son of Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 53) and Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester.

On 3rd September 1685 [his son] Charles Powlett 3rd Duke Bolton was born to Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 24) and [his wife] Frances Ramsden. He married 1713 his fifth cousin once removed Anne Vaughan Duchess Bolton, daughter of John Vaughan 3rd Earl Carbery and Anne Savile Countess Carbery.

On 26th October 1686 John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater (age 63) died. He was buried at St Peter and St Paul Church, Little Gaddesden. His son [his brother-in-law] John (age 39) succeeded 3rd Earl Bridgewater, 4th Viscount Brackley, 4th Baron Ellesmere. [his sister] Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 30) by marriage Countess Bridgewater.

John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater: On 9th November 1646 he was born to John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater and Elizabeth Cavendish Countess Bridgewater. On 7th November 1664 John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater and Elizabeth Cranfield were married. She the daughter of James Cranfield 2nd Earl Middlesex and Anne Bourchier Countess Middlesex. He the son of John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater and Elizabeth Cavendish Countess Bridgewater. They were fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland. On 2nd April 1673 John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater were married at St Dionis Backchurch. She the daughter of Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton and Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester. He the son of John Egerton 2nd Earl Bridgewater and Elizabeth Cavendish Countess Bridgewater. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

In 1689 [his father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 59) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.

On 24th July 1691 [his son] Harry Powlett 4th Duke Bolton was born to Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 30) and [his wife] Frances Ramsden. He married before 1718 Catherine Parry and had issue.

On 22nd November 1696 [his wife] Frances Ramsden died.

Around 1697 Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 36) and Henrietta Scott aka Crofts (age 15) were married. His third marriage. The difference in their ages was 21 years. She the illegitmate daughter of James Scott 1st Duke Monmouth 1st Duke Buccleuch and Eleanor Needham. He the son of Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 67) and Mary Scrope 6th Marchioness Winchester.

On 23rd June 1698 [his son] Nassau Powlett was born to Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 37) and [his wife] Henrietta Scott aka Crofts (age 16). He a great grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland. He married December 1731 his third cousin once removed Isabella Tufton, daughter of Thomas Tufton 6th Earl of Thanet and Catherine Cavendish Countess Isle Thanet, and had issue.

On 27th February 1699 [his father] Charles Paulet 1st Duke Bolton (age 69) died. His son Charles (age 38) succeeded 2nd Duke Bolton, 7th Marquess Winchester, 7th Earl Wiltshire, 7th Baron St John.

In 1706 [his brother-in-law] Henry Scott 1st Earl Deloraine (age 30) was created 1st Earl Deloraine.

In 1708 [his son-in-law] John Mordaunt (age 27) and [his daughter] Frances Powlett were married. She the daughter of Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 47) and [his former wife] Frances Ramsden. He the son of Charles Mordaunt 3rd Earl Peterborough 1st Earl Monmouth (age 50) and Carey Fraser Countess Peterborough and Monmouth (age 48). They were fourth cousins.

Before 1710 [his brother-in-law] Henry Scott 1st Earl Deloraine (age 33) and Anne Duncombe Countess Deloraine were married. She by marriage Countess Deloraine. He the son of James Scott 1st Duke Monmouth 1st Duke Buccleuch and Anne Scott Duchess Monmouth and Buccleuch (age 58).

In 1713 [his son] Charles Powlett 3rd Duke Bolton (age 27) and [his daughter-in-law] Anne Vaughan Duchess Bolton were married. She the daughter of John Vaughan 3rd Earl Carbery (age 73) and Anne Savile Countess Carbery. He the son of Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 52) and [his former wife] Frances Ramsden. They were fifth cousin once removed.

In 1714 Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 53) was appointed 525th Knight of the Garter by King George I (age 53).

In 1715 [his daughter] Frances Powlett died.

On 23rd May 1716 [his sister] Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater (age 60) died. She was buried at St Peter and St Paul Church, Little Gaddesden on 30th May 1716.

Before 1718 [his son] Harry Powlett 4th Duke Bolton (age 26) and [his daughter-in-law] Catherine Parry were married. He the son of Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 56) and [his former wife] Frances Ramsden.

On 21st January 1722 Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton (age 61) died. His son Charles (age 36) succeeded 3rd Duke Bolton, 8th Marquess Winchester, 8th Earl Wiltshire, 8th Baron St John. [his daughter-in-law] Anne Vaughan Duchess Bolton by marriage Duchess Bolton.

On 27th February 1730 [his former wife] Henrietta Scott aka Crofts (age 48) died.

[his daughter] Mary Powlett was born to Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton and Frances Ramsden. She married her sixth cousin Capel Moore, son of Henry Hamilton Moore 3rd Earl of Drogheda.

[his daughter] Frances Powlett was born to Charles Paulet 2nd Duke Bolton and Frances Ramsden. She married 1708 her fourth cousin John Mordaunt, son of Charles Mordaunt 3rd Earl Peterborough 1st Earl Monmouth and Carey Fraser Countess Peterborough and Monmouth, and had issue.
