Biography of Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot 1685-1737

Paternal Family Tree: Talbot

Before 1685 [his father] Bishop William Talbot (age 26) and [his mother] Mary Stoughton were married.

In 1685 Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot was born to [his father] Bishop William Talbot (age 27) and [his mother] Mary Stoughton.

Around 1695 Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot (age 10) educated at Eton College [Map].

Around 1697 Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot (age 12) educated Oriel College.

In 1699 [his father] Bishop William Talbot (age 41) was appointed Bishop of Oxford.

Around June 1708 Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot (age 23) and Cecil Mathew Baroness Talbot were married. He the son of Bishop William Talbot (age 50) and Mary Stoughton.

On 16th May 1710 [his son] William Talbot 1st Earl Talbot was born to Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot (age 25) and [his wife] Cecil Mathew Baroness Talbot at Worcester, Worcestershire [Map]. He married 21st February 1733 Mary Cardonnel Countess Talbot and had issue.

Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

Around 1712 [his son] John Talbot was born to Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot (age 27) and [his wife] Cecil Mathew Baroness Talbot. He married (1) 30th May 1737 Henrietta Decker, daughter of Matthew Decker 1st Baronet and Henrietta Watkins Lady Decker (2) August 1748 Catherine Chetwynd, daughter of John Chetwynd 2nd Viscount Chetwynd and Esther Kent Viscountess Chetwynd, and had issue.

In 1715 [his father] Bishop William Talbot (age 57) was appointed Chancellor of the Order of the Garter.

On 23rd April 1715 [his father] Bishop William Talbot (age 57) was appointed Bishop of Salisbury.

In 1718 [his father] Bishop William Talbot (age 60) was appointed Dean Chapel Royal.

On 13th June 1720 [his wife] Cecil Mathew Baroness Talbot died.

In 1722 [his father] Bishop William Talbot (age 64) was appointed Bishop of Durham.

On 10th October 1730 [his father] Bishop William Talbot (age 72) died at Hanover Square.

In 1733 Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot (age 48) was created 1st Baron Talbot of Hensol in Glamorganshire.

On 21st February 1733 [his son] William Talbot 1st Earl Talbot (age 22) and [his daughter-in-law] Mary Cardonnel Countess Talbot (age 14) were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square.

Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

On 14th February 1737 Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot (age 52) died at Lincoln's Inn Fields. His son William (age 26) succeeded 2nd Baron Talbot of Hensol in Glamorganshire. [his daughter-in-law] Mary Cardonnel Countess Talbot (age 18) by marriage Baroness Talbot of Hensol in Glamorganshire.

[his son] George Talbot was born to Charles Talbot 1st Baron Talbot and Cecil Mathew Baroness Talbot. He married before 26th October 1769 Anne Bouverie, daughter of Jacob Bouverie 1st Viscount Folkestone and Mary Clarke, and had issue.
