Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Biography of Edwyn Francis Scudamore-Stanhope 2nd Baronet 1793-1874

Paternal Family Tree: Stanhope

On 15th December 1793 Edwyn Francis Scudamore-Stanhope 2nd Baronet was born to [his father] Henry Edwin Stanhope 1st Baronet [aged 39].

On 20th December 1814 [his father] Henry Edwin Stanhope 1st Baronet [aged 60] died. His son Edwyn [aged 21] succeeded 2nd Baronet Stanhope of Stanwell.

On 22nd October 1820 Frances Scudamore Duchess Norfolk [aged 70] died without issue. She was buried at St Cuthbert's Church, Holme Lacy [Map].

After a prolonged legal battle Edwyn Francis Scudamore-Stanhope 2nd Baronet [aged 26] inherited Holme Lacy House, Herefordshire [Map]. He being a descendant of Mary Scudamore Lady Bridges, daughter of James Scudamore, who married Giles Brydges 1st Baronet: John Brydges 2nd Baronet, James Brydges 8th Baron Chandos. James Brydges 1st Duke Chandos. John Brydges to [his grandmother] Catherine Brydges who married [his grandfather] Edwyn Francis Stanhope and were the parents of Henry Edwin Stanhope 1st Baronet who was the father of Edwyn Francis Scudamore-Stanhope 2nd Baronet.

On 8th April 1821 [his son] Henry Edwyn Chandos Scudamore Stanhope 9th Earl of Chesterfield was born to Edwyn Francis Scudamore-Stanhope 2nd Baronet [aged 27]. He married 6th August 1851 Dorothea Hay Countess Chesterfield and had issue.

On 6th August 1851 [his son] Henry Edwyn Chandos Scudamore Stanhope 9th Earl of Chesterfield [aged 30] and [his daughter-in-law] Dorothea Hay Countess Chesterfield [aged 23] were married at St John's Church Edinburgh.

In 1874 Edwyn Francis Scudamore-Stanhope 2nd Baronet [aged 80] died. His son Henry [aged 52] succeeded 3rd Baronet Stanhope of Stanwell.
