Chronicle of a Bourgeois of Valenciennes
Récits d’un bourgeois de Valenciennes aka The Chronicle of a Bourgeois of Valenciennes is a vivid 14th-century vernacular chronicle written by an anonymous urban chronicler from Valenciennes in the County of Hainaut. It survives in a manuscript that describes local and regional history from about 1253 to 1366, blending chronology, narrative episodes, and eyewitness-style accounts of political, military, and social events in medieval France, Flanders, and the Low Countries. The work begins with a chronological framework of events affecting Valenciennes and its region under rulers such as King Philip VI of France and the shifting allegiances of local nobility. It includes accounts of conflicts, sieges, diplomatic manoeuvres, and the impact of broader struggles like the Hundred Years’ War on urban life in Hainaut. Written from the perspective of a burgher (bourgeois) rather than a monastery or royal court, the chronicle offers a rare lay viewpoint on high politics and warfare, reflecting how merchants, townspeople, and civic institutions experienced the turbulence of the 13th and 14th centuries. On 10th February 1797 George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal was born to [his father] George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal (age 27) at Great Cumberland Place.
On 5th January 1799 [his grandfather] Arthur Chichester 1st Marquess Donegal (age 59) died. His son [his father] George (age 29) succeeded 2nd Marquess Donegal, 6th Earl Donegal, 2nd Baron Fisherwick of Fisherwick in Staffordshire.
Before 1818 [his father] George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal (age 48) and Anna May were married. In 1818 it came to light that Anna May was illegitimate and underage when she married meaning the marriage was invalid, and, consequently, their issue Illegitimate. Proceedings were put in place to allow the eldest son to retain his place in the inheritance. He the son of [his grandfather] Arthur Chichester 1st Marquess Donegal and [his grandmother] Anne Hamilton Countess Donegal.
On 21st September 1821 [his brother] Edward Chichester 4th Marquess Donegal (age 22) and [his sister-in-law] Amelia Ogrady Marchioness County Donegal were married. He the son of [his father] George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal (age 52).
In 1822 George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal (age 24) and Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal (age 22) were married. She the daughter of Richard Butler 1st Earl Glengall. He the son of George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal (age 52).
On 26th May 1826 [his son] George Augustus Chichester was born to George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal (age 29) and [his wife] Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal (age 27). He died aged one in 1827.
On 18th June 1827 [his son] George Augustus Chichester (age 1) died.
On 25th November 1827 [his son] Frederick Richard Chichester was born to George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal (age 30) and [his wife] Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal (age 28).
In 1831 [his brother] Edward Chichester 4th Marquess Donegal (age 31) was appointed Dean St Eunan's Cathedral.
On 29th October 1833 Lieutenant-General Frederick Ashworth and [his future wife] Harriet Graham Marchioness Donegal (age 3) were married.

He was buried at St Nicholas' Church, Carrickfergus, County Antrim. His son George (age 47) succeeded 3rd Marquess Donegal, 3rd Baron Fisherwick of Fisherwick in Staffordshire. The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy
The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. She the daughter of George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal (age 60) and [his wife] Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal (age 58). He the son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper 7th Earl Shaftesbury (age 56) and Emily Caroline Catherine Frances Cowper Countess Shaftesbury.
On 14th September 1860 [his wife] Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal (age 61) died.
On 26th February 1862 George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal (age 65) and Harriet Graham Marchioness Donegal (age 32) were married. She by marriage Marchioness Donegal. The difference in their ages was 32 years. He the son of George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal.
