The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

He the son of [his grandfather] Thomas Howard 1st Earl Suffolk (age 50) and [his grandmother] Catherine Knyvet Countess Suffolk (age 48).
On 18th July 1627 Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk was born to Theophilus Howard 2nd Earl Suffolk (age 44) and Elizabeth Home Countess Suffolk (age 28).
On 19th August 1633 [his mother] Elizabeth Home Countess Suffolk (age 34) died.
On 3rd June 1640 [his father] Theophilus Howard 2nd Earl Suffolk (age 57) died at Suffolk House, Suffolk Street. He was buried at Waldon Priory and Abbey [Map]. His son [his brother] James (age 21) succeeded 3rd Earl Suffolk, 3rd Baron Howard de Walden.
On 20th December 1667 Charles Vermuyden (age 29) and [his future wife] Mary Upton (age 17) were married.
Before 1670 Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 42) and Mary Stewart (age 29) were married. He the son of Theophilus Howard 2nd Earl Suffolk and Elizabeth Home Countess Suffolk.
In 1670 [his son] Henry Howard 6th Earl Suffolk was born to Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 42) and [his wife] Mary Stewart (age 30) at London.
In 1672 [his son] Edward Howard 8th Earl Suffolk was born to Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 44) and [his wife] Mary Stewart (age 32).

On 2nd June 1680 John Maynard (age 76) and [his future wife] Mary Upton (age 30) were married. The difference in their ages was 46 years.
On 10th May 1682 [his wife] Mary Stewart (age 42) died.
After 10th May 1682 Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 54) and Mary Ronkswood were married. He the son of Theophilus Howard 2nd Earl Suffolk and Elizabeth Home Countess Suffolk.
In March 1685 Captain Robert Stewart 6th Baron Castle Stuart died. His son Andrew (age 13) de jure 7th Baron Castle Stuart of County Tyrone althougvh he didn't claim the title since the ancestrals lands had been given away as part of the dowry when [his former wife] Mary Stewart married Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 57).
On 21st April 1691 [his brother] George Howard 4th Earl Suffolk (age 65) died. His brother Henry (age 63) succeeded 5th Earl Suffolk. [his future wife] Mary Upton Countess Suffolk (age 41) by marriage Countess Suffolk.
On 6th September 1691 [his son] Henry Howard 6th Earl Suffolk (age 21) and [his daughter-in-law] Auberie Anne Penelope O'Brien were married. She the daughter of Henry O'Brien 7th Earl Thomond and Sarah Russell Countess Thomond (age 53). He the son of Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 64) and [his former wife] Mary Stewart. They were fifth cousin once removed.
On 22nd November 1691 Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 64) and Mary Upton Countess Suffolk (age 41) were married. The difference in their ages was 22 years. He the son of Theophilus Howard 2nd Earl Suffolk and Elizabeth Home Countess Suffolk.
In 1701 [his future daughter-in-law] Henrietta Hobart Countess Suffolk (age 12) became a ward of Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 73).
In April 1705 [his son] Henry Howard 6th Earl Suffolk (age 35) and [his daughter-in-law] Henrietta Somerset Countess Suffolk (age 36) were married. She the daughter of Henry Somerset 1st Duke Beaufort and Mary Capell Duchess Beaufort (age 74). He the son of Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 77) and [his former wife] Mary Stewart. They were fifth cousins.
On 2nd March 1706 [his son] Charles Howard 9th Earl Suffolk (age 31) and [his daughter-in-law] Henrietta Hobart Countess Suffolk (age 17) were married at St Benet's Church, Paul's Wharf [Map]. He the son of Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 78) and [his former wife] Mary Stewart.
On 10th December 1709 Henry Howard 5th Earl Suffolk (age 82) died. His son [his son] Henry (age 39) succeeded 6th Earl Suffolk. [his daughter-in-law] Henrietta Somerset Countess Suffolk (age 40) by marriage Countess Suffolk.
