Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 25th February 1789 Hyacinthe Mary Wellesley Baroness Hatherton was born illegitimately to [her father] Richard Wellesley 1st Marquess Wellesley (age 28) and [her mother] Hyacinthe Gabrielle Roland Marchioness Wellesley (age 23).
On 29th November 1794 [her father] Richard Wellesley 1st Marquess Wellesley (age 34) and [her mother] Hyacinthe Gabrielle Roland Marchioness Wellesley (age 28) were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square. She by marriage Countess Mornington. He the son of [her grandfather] Garrett Wellesley 1st Earl Mornington and [her grandmother] Anne Hill Countess Mornington (age 52).
In 1799 [her father] Richard Wellesley 1st Marquess Wellesley (age 38) was created 1st Marquess Wellesley. [her mother] Hyacinthe Gabrielle Roland Marchioness Wellesley (age 33) by marriage Marchioness Wellesley.
In 1810 [her father] Richard Wellesley 1st Marquess Wellesley (age 49) was appointed 635th Knight of the Garter by King George III of Great Britain and Ireland (age 71).
In October 1812 Edward John Walhouse aka Littleton 1st Baron Hatherton (age 21) and Hyacinthe Mary Wellesley Baroness Hatherton (age 23) were married. She the illegitmate daughter of Richard Wellesley 1st Marquess Wellesley (age 52) and Hyacinthe Gabrielle Roland Marchioness Wellesley (age 46).
In 1813 [her daughter] Hyacinthe Anne Littleton was born to Edward John Walhouse aka Littleton 1st Baron Hatherton (age 21) and Hyacinthe Mary Wellesley Baroness Hatherton (age 23).
On 31st December 1815 [her son] Edward Richard Littleton 2nd Baron Hatherton was born to Edward John Walhouse aka Littleton 1st Baron Hatherton (age 24) and Hyacinthe Mary Wellesley Baroness Hatherton (age 26). He married 1841 Margaret Percy Baroness Hatherton, daughter of George Percy 5th Duke Northumberland and Louisa Harcourt Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie, and had issue.
On 5th November 1816 [her mother] Hyacinthe Gabrielle Roland Marchioness Wellesley (age 50) died at Teddesley Hall, Penkridge; home of her son-in-law Edward John Walhouse aka Littleton 1st Baron Hatherton (age 25), husband of her daughter Hyacinthe Mary Wellesley Baroness Hatherton (age 27).
On 29th October 1825 [her father] Richard Wellesley 1st Marquess Wellesley (age 65) and Marianne Caton Marchioness Wellesley (age 37) were married. She by marriage Marchioness Wellesley. The difference in their ages was 27 years. He the son of [her grandfather] Garrett Wellesley 1st Earl Mornington and [her grandmother] Anne Hill Countess Mornington (age 83).
She one of the four Caton sisters, daughters of Richard Caton (age 62), a merchant from Baltimore, the three eldest, known as the "The Three American Graces", married European husbands. Only the fourth daughter Emily Caton (age 30) had children.
Marianne Caton Marchioness Wellesley married Richard Wellesley 1st Marquess Wellesley,
Elizabeth Caton Baroness Stafford (age 35) married George William Stafford-Jerningham 8th Baron Stafford (age 54),
Louisa Catharine Caton Duchess Leeds (age 32) married firstly Felton Elwell Hervey-Bathurst 1st Baronet and secondly Francis Godolphin Osborne 7th Duke Leeds (age 27).
Emily Caton married Consul John MacTavish (age 38).
William of Worcester's Chronicle of England
William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 16th August 1832 [her son-in-law] Charles Evelyn Pierrepont (age 26) and [her daughter] Emily Littleton were married. He the son of Charles Herbert Pierrepont 2nd Earl Manvers (age 54) and Mary Laetitia Eyre Countess Manvers (age 47).
In 1835 Edward John Walhouse aka Littleton 1st Baron Hatherton (age 43) was created 1st Baron Hatherton. Hyacinthe Mary Wellesley Baroness Hatherton (age 45) by marriage Baroness Hatherton.
In 1841 [her son] Edward Richard Littleton 2nd Baron Hatherton (age 25) and [her daughter-in-law] Margaret Percy Baroness Hatherton (age 28) were married. She the daughter of George Percy 5th Duke Northumberland (age 62) and Louisa Harcourt Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie (age 59).
On 26th September 1842 [her father] Richard Wellesley 1st Marquess Wellesley (age 82) died at Kingston House Knightsbridge, Kensington. His brother [her uncle] William (age 79) succeeded 3rd Earl Mornington, 3rd Viscount Wellesley of Dangan Castle. Katherine Forbes Countess Mornington (age 81) by marriage Countess Mornington.
On 10th July 1847 [her daughter] Hyacinthe Anne Littleton (age 34) died at Teddesley Hall, Penkridge.

[her daughter] Emily Littleton was born to Edward John Walhouse aka Littleton 1st Baron Hatherton and Hyacinthe Mary Wellesley Baroness Hatherton. She married 16th August 1832 Charles Evelyn Pierrepont, son of Charles Herbert Pierrepont 2nd Earl Manvers and Mary Laetitia Eyre Countess Manvers.
