Biography of James Oxenden 2nd Baronet 1641-1708

Paternal Family Tree: Oxenden

In or before 1641 [his father] Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 26) and [his mother] Elizabeth Meredith were married.

On 4th April 1641 James Oxenden 2nd Baronet was born to Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 27) and Elizabeth Meredith.

In 1659 [his mother] Elizabeth Meredith died.

On 22nd March 1671 James Oxenden 2nd Baronet (age 29) was knighted.

In 1679 James Oxenden 2nd Baronet (age 37) was elected MP Sandwich which seat he held until 1685.

In 1686 [his father] Henry Oxenden 1st Baronet (age 72) died. His son James (age 44) succeeded 2nd Baronet Oxenden of Dene in Kent.

In 1689 James Oxenden 2nd Baronet (age 47) was elected MP Sandwich which seat he held until 1690.

In 1698 James Oxenden 2nd Baronet (age 56) was elected MP Kent which seat he held until 1701.

All About History Books

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1701 James Oxenden 2nd Baronet (age 59) was elected MP Sandwich which seat he held until 1702.

Before 29th September 1708 James Oxenden 2nd Baronet (age 67) and Arabella Watson Lady Oxenden were married. She by marriage Lady Oxenden of Dene in Kent.

On 29th September 1708 James Oxenden 2nd Baronet (age 67) died without issue. His brother [his brother] Henry (age 63) succeeded 3rd Baronet Oxenden of Dene in Kent.

In 1735 [his former wife] Arabella Watson Lady Oxenden died.
