Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke
Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.

On 6th March 1681 Charles Berkeley 2nd Baron Berkeley died. His brother [her future husband] John [aged 18] succeeded 3rd Baron Berkeley of Stratton in Cornwall.

Before 27th February 1697 John Berkeley 3rd Baron Berkeley [aged 34] and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland [aged 25] were married. She by marriage Baroness Berkeley of Stratton in Cornwall.
On 27th February 1697 [her husband] John Berkeley 3rd Baron Berkeley [aged 34] died. His brother [her brother-in-law] William [aged 34] succeeded 4th Baron Berkeley of Stratton in Cornwall. [her sister] Frances Temple Baroness Berkeley by marriage Baroness Berkeley of Stratton in Cornwall.
On 12th May 1700 William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 50] and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland [aged 28] were married. She by marriage Countess of Portland. The difference in their ages was 22 years.
On 4th April 1701 [her daughter] Sophia Bentinck Duchess Kent was born to [her husband] William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 51] and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland [aged 29]. She married 24th March 1729 Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent, son of Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent and Mary Lucas Countess Kent, and had issue.
On 27th June 1703 [her daughter] Elizabeth Adriana Bentinck was born to [her husband] William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 53] and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland [aged 31]. She married 18th December 1720 Bishop Henry Egerton, son of John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater, and had issue.
On 6th November 1704 [her son] William Bentinck Count Bentinck was born to [her husband] William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 55] and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland [aged 32].

Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

She by marriage Baroness Byron of Rochdale in Lancashire. She the daughter of [her husband] William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 57] and Anne Villiers Countess Portland. They were fifth cousin once removed.
In 1707 [her sister] Frances Temple Baroness Berkeley died.

On 2nd June 1708 [her son] Charles John Bentinck was born to [her husband] William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 58] and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland [aged 36]. He married 11th January 1738 Margaret Cadogan, daughter of William Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan and Margaret Cecilia Munter Countess Cadogan.
Before 1st March 1709 [her step-son] Henry Bentinck 1st Duke Portland [aged 26] and Elizabeth Noel Duchess Portland [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of Wriothesley Baptist Noel 2nd Earl Gainsborough and Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby. He the son of [her husband] William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 59] and Anne Villiers Countess Portland. They were third cousin twice removed.
On 20th October 1709 [her daughter] Barbara Bentinck was born to [her husband] William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 60] and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland [aged 37]. She married 18th February 1734 Francis Godolphin 2nd Baron Goldolphin, son of Henry Godolphin and Mary Godolphin.
On 23rd November 1709 [her husband] William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 60] died. His son [her step-son] Henry [aged 27] succeeded 2nd Earl of Portland. Elizabeth Noel [aged 21] by marriage Countess of Portland.
Calendar of Treasury Warrants 1718 Sep. 7th September 1718. Royal warrant dated Hampton Court to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant of a salary of 2,000l. a year to Jane, Countess Dowager of Portland [aged 46], whom we have thought fit to appoint to be Governess to our dearly beloved grandchildren, the Lady Ann [aged 8], the Lady Amelia [aged 7] and the Lady Carolina [aged 5], daughters of our most dearly beloved son George Augustus, Prince of Wales [aged 34]: during pleasure: as from March 25 last. On 1st April 1736 [her daughter] Barbara Bentinck [aged 26] died.
On 11th January 1738 Charles John Bentinck [aged 29] and Margaret Cadogan [aged 30] were married. She the daughter of William Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan and Margaret Cecilia Munter Countess Cadogan. He the son of William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland [aged 66].

Sophia Bentinck Duchess Kent: On 4th April 1701 she was born to William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland. On 24th March 1729 Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent and she were married. She by marriage Duchess Kent. The difference in their ages was 30 years. She the daughter of William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland. He the son of Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent and Mary Lucas Countess Kent. In 1740 Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent was created 1st Marquess Grey. She by marriage Marchioness Grey.
