Before 1883 [his father] Major-General George Lambert and [his mother] Isabella Browne were married.
In 1883 John Mounsey Lambert was born to Major-General George Lambert and Isabella Browne at Breamish House, Powburn [Map]. He was educated at Mister Moore's School at Alnmouth and Wellington College.
In 1898 [his father] Major-General George Lambert died at his home Bolton Hall, Northumberland [Map].
On 4th March 1903 John Mounsey Lambert (age 20) enlisted in the Northumberland Militia, now the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers.
On 3rd July 1905 John Mounsey Lambert (age 22) was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in the 5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, and promoted to Lieutenant on 1st November 1906 and captain on 29th August 1914.
On 30th August 1914 John Mounsey Lambert (age 31) was sent to France attached tot he 1st Battalion. He arrived at the Battalion front line with 103 other ranks on the 19th September 1914.
On 28th October 1914 John Mounsey Lambert (age 31) was killed in action during an unsuccessful attack on the village of Neuve Chapelle. He is commemorated on a plaque at Chapel of St John the Evangelist, Bolton [Map]. He is buried at Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez.
Sunderland Echo. 12th November 1914. Killed in Action. It is announced that Capt. John Mounsey Lambert (deceased), Northumberland Fusiliers, only son of the late Major-General and Mrs Lambert, of Bolton Hall [Map], Alnwick, was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle.
