The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1769 Juckes Granville Juckes-Clifton 8th Baronet was born to Gervase Clifton 6th Baronet (age 25).

In 1794 Juckes Granville Juckes-Clifton 8th Baronet (age 25) and Margaret De Lancey were married. There was no issue from the marriage.

In 1815 [his father] Gervase Clifton 6th Baronet (age 71) died. His son [his brother] Robert (age 48) succeeded 7th Baronet Clifton of Clifton in Nottinghamshire.

In 1820 Juckes Granville Juckes-Clifton 8th Baronet (age 51) was appointed High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire.

In or before 1821 [his wife] Margaret De Lancey died.

In 1821 Juckes Granville Juckes-Clifton 8th Baronet (age 52) and Marianne Swinfen Lady Clifton were married.

On 24th December 1826 [his son] Robert Juckes Clifton 9th Baronet was born to Juckes Granville Juckes-Clifton 8th Baronet (age 57) and [his wife] Marianne Swinfen Lady Clifton.

In 1837 [his brother] Robert Clifton 7th Baronet (age 70) died unmarried. His brother Juckes (age 68) succeeded 8th Baronet Clifton of Clifton in Nottinghamshire. [his wife] Marianne Swinfen Lady Clifton by marriage Lady Clifton of Clifton in Nottinghamshire.

In 1842 [his son-in-law] Henry Hervey Bruce 3rd Baronet (age 21) and [his daughter] Marianne Margaret Clifton were married.

In 1852 Juckes Granville Juckes-Clifton 8th Baronet (age 83) died. His son [his son] Robert (age 25) succeeded 9th Baronet Clifton of Clifton in Nottinghamshire.

In 1860 [his former wife] Marianne Swinfen Lady Clifton died.
