The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 16th August 1761 [his father] George Edgecumbe 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 41) and [his mother] Emma Gilbert Countess Mount Edgcumbe were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Archbishop George Gilbert (deceased) and [his grandmother] Margaret Sherard.

On 13th September 1764 Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe was born to George Edgecumbe 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 44) and Emma Gilbert Countess Mount Edgcumbe.

In 1786 Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 21) was elected MP Fowey.

On 21st February 1789 Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 24) and Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe (age 21) were married. She the daughter of John Hobart 2nd Earl Buckinghamshire (age 65) and Mary Anne Drury Countess Buckinghamshire. He the son of George Edgecumbe 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 68) and Emma Gilbert Countess Mount Edgcumbe.

On 6th December 1789 Armar Lowry-Corry 1st Earl Belmore (age 49) was created 1st Viscount Belmore of Fermanagh. [his sister-in-law] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 27) by marriage Viscountess Belmore of Fermanagh.

In March 1791 Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 26) was elected MP Fowey.

On 28th July 1791 [his daughter] Emma Sophie Edgecumbe Countess Brownlow was born to Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 26) and [his wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe (age 23) in Portugal Street.

On 22nd October 1792 [his daughter] Caroline Anne Edgecumbe was born to Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 28) and [his wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe (age 24) in Portugal Street.

On 4th April 1793 William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 29) and [his sister-in-law] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 30) were married. She the daughter of [his father-in-law] John Hobart 2nd Earl Buckinghamshire (age 69) and Mary Anne Drury Countess Buckinghamshire. He the son of William John Kerr 5th Marquess Lothian (age 56) and Elizabeth Fortescue 5th Marchioness Lothian.

On 3rd August 1793 [his father-in-law] John Hobart 2nd Earl Buckinghamshire (age 69) died. His half brother George (age 61) succeeded 3rd Earl Buckinghamshire, 3rd Baron Hobart, 7th Baronet Hobart of Intwood in Norfolk. Albinia Bertie Countess Buckinghamshire (age 54) by marriage Countess Buckinghamshire. [his sister-in-law] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 31) inherited Blickling Hall, Norfolk [Map].

On 4th February 1795 [his father] George Edgecumbe 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 74) died. His son Richard (age 30) succeeded 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, 3rd Baron Edgcumbe. [his wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe (age 27) by marriage Countess of Mount Edgcumbe.

On 23rd March 1797 [his son] Ernest Augustus Edgecumbe 3rd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe was born to Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 32) and [his wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe (age 29).

On 23rd June 1800 [his son] George Edgecumbe was born to Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 35) and [his wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe (age 32).

On 14th July 1805 [his sister-in-law] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 43) died.

In 1806 [his wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe (age 38) died.

In April 1812 [his son-in-law] Reginald George Macdonald Macdonald and [his daughter] Caroline Anne Edgecumbe (age 19) were married. She the daughter of Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 47) and [his former wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe.

On 17th July 1828 [his son-in-law] John Cust 1st Earl Brownlow (age 48) and [his daughter] Emma Sophie Edgecumbe Countess Brownlow (age 36) were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square. She by marriage Countess Brownlow. She the daughter of Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 63) and [his former wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe.

On 19th May 1834 [his son] George Edgecumbe (age 33) and [his daughter-in-law] Fanny Lucy Shelley (age 23) were married. He the son of Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 69) and [his former wife] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe.

On 26th September 1839 Richard Edgecumbe 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 75) died. His son [his son] Ernest (age 42) succeeded 3rd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, 4th Baron Edgcumbe.
