Biography of Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington 1356-1406

Paternal Family Tree: Harrington

In 1350 [his father] John Harrington 2nd Baron Harington (age 22) and [his mother] Joan Bermingham (age 15) were married. The marriage somewhat speculative?

In 1356 Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington was born to John Harrington 2nd Baron Harington (age 28) and Joan Bermingham (age 21) at Gleaston Castle [Map].

In 1359 [his mother] Joan Bermingham (age 24) died.

Around 1363 Isabella Countess Bedford and Soissons (age 30) was granted custody of the paternal lands of Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington (age 7).

On 28th May 1363 [his father] John Harrington 2nd Baron Harington (age 35) died at Gleaston Castle [Map]. His son Robert (age 7) succeeded 3rd Baron Harington. Given his young age Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington became a ward of King Edward III of England (age 50) who granted his wardship to his daughter Isabella Countess Bedford and Soissons (age 30) and her husband Enguerrand de Coucy 1st Earl Bedford 1st Count Soissons (age 23).

Around 1376 [his daughter] Margaret Harrington was born to Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington (age 20) and [his future wife] Isabel Loring Baroness Harington.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

Roger Scales 4th Baron Scales (age 23) attended.

Around 1383 Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington (age 27) and Isabel Loring Baroness Harington were married. She by marriage Baroness Harington.

In 1384 [his son] John Harrington 4th Baron Harington was born to Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington (age 28) and [his wife] Isabel Loring Baroness Harington.

Around 1386 [his daughter] Elizabeth Harrington was born to Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington (age 30) and [his wife] Isabel Loring Baroness Harington.

In 1390 [his son] William Harrington 5th Baron Harington was born to Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington (age 34) and [his wife] Isabel Loring Baroness Harington at Gleaston Castle [Map].

On 21st May 1406 Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington (age 50) died at Aldingham Furness, Lancashire. His son [his son] John (age 22) succeeded 4th Baron Harington.

[his daughter] Anne Harrington was born to Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington and Isabel Loring Baroness Harington.
