The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 9th November 1778 [his son] Robert Sewallis Shirley was born to Robert Shirley 7th Earl Ferrers (age 22) and [his wife] Elizabeth Prentiss Countess Ferrers.
On 26th March 1786 [his mother] Catherine Cotton Countess Ferrers (age 67) died.
On 18th April 1787 [his father] Robert Shirley 6th Earl Ferrers (age 63) died. His son Robert (age 30) succeeded 7th Earl Ferrers, 13th Baronet Shirley of Staunton Harold in Leicestershire. [his wife] Elizabeth Prentiss Countess Ferrers by marriage Countess Ferrers.
In 1788 Robert Shirley 7th Earl Ferrers (age 31) was appointed Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
On 14th September 1799 [his wife] Elizabeth Prentiss Countess Ferrers died.
On 28th September 1799 Robert Shirley 7th Earl Ferrers (age 43) and Elizabeth Mundy Countess Ferrers were married. She by marriage Countess Ferrers. He the son of Robert Shirley 6th Earl Ferrers and Catherine Cotton Countess Ferrers.
On 5th September 1800 [his son] Robert Sewallis Shirley (age 21) and [his daughter-in-law] Sophia Curzon (age 21) were married. He the son of Robert Shirley 7th Earl Ferrers (age 43) and [his former wife] Elizabeth Prentiss Countess Ferrers.

On 22nd February 1827 [his wife] Elizabeth Mundy Countess Ferrers died. She was buried at Church of St Mary and St Hardulph, Breedon on the Hill [Map].
On 2nd May 1827 Robert Shirley 7th Earl Ferrers (age 70) died. He was buried at Church of St Mary and St Hardulph, Breedon on the Hill [Map]. His brother [his brother] Washington (age 66) succeeded 8th Earl Ferrers, 14th Baronet Shirley of Staunton Harold in Leicestershire.
