The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 21st May 1917 Ronald John Bilsland Colville 2nd Baron Clydesmuir was born to David John Colville 1st Baron Clydesmuir (age 23) and Agnes Anne Bilsland (age 20).
In 1949 [his son] David Ronald Colville 3rd Baron Clydesmuir was born to Ronald John Bilsland Colville 2nd Baron Clydesmuir (age 31).
On 31st October 1954 [his father] David John Colville 1st Baron Clydesmuir (age 60) died. His son Ronald (age 37) succeeded 2nd Baron CLydesmuir of Braidwood in Lanarkshire.
In 1963 Ronald John Bilsland Colville 2nd Baron Clydesmuir (age 45) was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire whic office he held until 1992
On 29th December 1970 [his mother] Agnes Anne Bilsland (age 74) died.
In 1972 Ronald John Bilsland Colville 2nd Baron Clydesmuir (age 54) was appointed Knight of the Thistle.
In 1978 Ronald John Bilsland Colville 2nd Baron Clydesmuir (age 60) was elected and Honourary Fellow of the Royal Society of Scotland.
On 2nd October 1996 Ronald John Bilsland Colville 2nd Baron Clydesmuir (age 79) died. His son [his son] David (age 47) succeeded 3rd Baron CLydesmuir of Braidwood in Lanarkshire.
