Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 28th November 1586 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet was born to [his father] Thomas Bowyer of Leighthorne, Sussex and [his mother] Jane Birch. He was baptised on 4th December 1586 at Church of St Stephen, North Mudham.
On 7th March 1595 [his father] Thomas Bowyer of Leighthorne, Sussex died.
In 1609 [his son] Thomas Bowyer 2nd Baronet was born to Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 22).
In 1614 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 27) was elected MP Midhurst.
In 1621 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 34) was elected MP Bramber which seat he held until 1626.
In 1626 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 39) was appointed High Sheriff of Sussex and High Sheriff of Surrey.
On 23rd July 1627 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 40) was created 1st Baronet Bowyer of Leighthorne in Sussex.
In 1629 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 42) was elected MP Bramber.
In April 1640 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 53) was elected MP Bramber.

After November 1640 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 53) was elected MP Bramber at a by-elected - the election in Nov 1640 had been declared void.
In 1645 [his son] James Bowyer 3rd and 1st Baronet was born to Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 58).
On 18th May 1650 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 63) was fined £2,033 as a delinquent.
Before 28th February 1651 Thomas Bowyer 1st Baronet (age 64) died. He was buried at the Church of St Stephen, North Mudham on 28th February 1651. His son Thomas (age 42) succeeded 2nd Baronet Bowyer of Leighthorne in Sussex.
