The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

Around 1571 Thomas Holte 1st Baronet was born to Edward Holte of the Manor House in Duddeston in Warwickshire and Dorothy Ferrers (age 30).
Before 1600 Thomas Holte 1st Baronet (age 28) and Grace Bradbourne were married.
In 1600 [his son] Edward Holte and [his daughter-in-law] Elizabeth King were married against his father's wishes. Edward was entirely cut off from his inheritance, and despite pleas from the king himself, Sir Thomas never allowed reconciliation. She the daughter of Bishop John King (age 41).
In 1612 Thomas Holte 1st Baronet (age 41) was created 1st Baronet Holte of Aston in Warwickshire.
In 1618 Thomas Holte 1st Baronet (age 47) commissioned the building of Aston Hall, Warwickshire. It was completed in 1631.
After 1627 Thomas Holte 1st Baronet (age 56) and Anne Littleton were married. They were second cousin twice removed.
In 1634 [his son-in-law] Richard Shuckburgh (age 36) and [his daughter] Grace Holte were married.
In 1643 [his son] Edward Holte died.
In 1647 [his daughter] Elizabeth Holt died.

On 14th December 1654 Thomas Holte 1st Baronet (age 83) died. His grandson [his grandson] Robert (age 29) succeeded 2nd Baronet Holte of Aston in Warwickshire.
