Biography of William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor 1779-1869

Paternal Family Tree: Bouverie

On 24th January 1777 [his father] Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie 2nd Earl Radnor (age 26) and [his mother] Anne Duncombe Countess Radnor (age 19) were married. She by marriage Countess Radnor. He the son of [his grandfather] William Pleydell-Bouverie 1st Earl Radnor and [his grandmother] Harriet Pleydell.

On 11th May 1779 William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor was born to [his father] Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie 2nd Earl Radnor (age 29) and [his mother] Anne Duncombe Countess Radnor (age 21).

On 2nd October 1800 William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 21) and Catherine Pelham-Clinton (age 24) were married. He the son of Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie 2nd Earl Radnor (age 50) and Anne Duncombe Countess Radnor (age 42).

In 1801 William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 21) was elected MP Downton.

On 8th July 1801 [his daughter] Catherine Pleydell-Bouverie was born to William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 22) and [his wife] Catherine Pelham-Clinton (age 25). She married before 13th May 1828 her sixth cousin General Edward Percy Buckley.

On 22nd November 1801 William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 22) was appointed Deputy Lieutenant Berkshire.

In 1802 William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 22) was elected MP Salisbury.

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

On 24th May 1814 William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 35) and Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 24) were married. He the son of Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie 2nd Earl Radnor (age 64) and Anne Duncombe Countess Radnor (age 56).

In 1815 [his brother-in-law] Henry St John-Mildmay 4th Baronet (age 27) and Harriett Bouverie Countess Camden (age 24) were married. She the sister of his first wife Charlotte Bouverie; an example of Married to Two Siblings. Further, his brother [his brother-in-law] Paulet St John-Mildmay (age 23) had two years before, in 1813, marry Anna Maria Wyndham Bouverie, sister of Harriet and Charlotte; Marriage of Two Sets of Siblings. Further still, Harriet, Charlotte and Anna Maria's first cousin William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 35) married Henry and Paulet's sister [his wife] Judith (age 24).

On 18th September 1815 [his son] Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie 4th Earl Radnor was born to William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 36) and [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 25). He married 30th October 1840 Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston, daughter of James Walter Grimston 1st Earl Verulam and Charlotte Jenkinson Countess Verulam, and had issue.

On 16th January 1817 [his daughter] Ann Maria Pleydell-Bouverie was born to William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 37) and [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 26). She died aged eight in 1825.

On 26th April 1818 [his son] Edward Pleydell-Bouverie was born to William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 38) and [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 28). He married 1st November 1842 Elizabeth Anne Balfour and had issue.

In April 1819 [his daughter] Jane Harriet Pleydell-Bouverie was born to William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 39) and [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 28).

On 18th July 1825 [his daughter] Ann Maria Pleydell-Bouverie (age 8) died.

Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

On 27th January 1828 [his father] Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie 2nd Earl Radnor (age 77) died. His son William (age 48) succeeded 3rd Earl Radnor, 4th Viscount Folkestone, 4th Baron Longford, 6th Baronet Bouverie of St Catherine Cree Church in London. [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 37) by marriage Countess Radnor.

Before 13th May 1828 [his son-in-law] General Edward Percy Buckley (age 31) and [his daughter] Catherine Pleydell-Bouverie (age 26) were married. She the daughter of William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 49) and [his former wife] Catherine Pelham-Clinton. They were sixth cousins. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

In 1829 [his mother] Anne Duncombe Countess Radnor (age 70) died.

On 26th June 1832 [his son] Stillborn Pleydell-Bouverie was born to William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 53) and [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 42).

On 30th October 1840 [his son] Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie 4th Earl Radnor (age 25) and [his daughter-in-law] Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston (age 19) were married. She the daughter of James Walter Grimston 1st Earl Verulam (age 65) and Charlotte Jenkinson Countess Verulam. He the son of William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 61) and [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 50).

On 1st November 1842 [his son] Edward Pleydell-Bouverie (age 24) and [his daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Anne Balfour (age 22) were married. He the son of William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 63) and [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 52).

On 27th April 1851 [his wife] Judith St John-Mildmay Countess Radnor (age 61) died.

On 9th April 1869 William Pleydell-Bouverie 3rd Earl Radnor (age 89) died. His son Jacob (age 53) succeeded 4th Earl Radnor, 5th Viscount Folkestone, 5th Baron Longford, 7th Baronet Bouverie of St Catherine Cree Church in London. [his daughter-in-law] Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston (age 47) by marriage Countess Radnor.
