The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1295 the army of King Edward I (age 55) of England gathered at Bolton [Map] before advancing north into Scotland.
On 7th September 1513 the English army of 26,000 men camped at Bolton, Northumberland [Map] on land now known as The Guards. Thomas Howard (age 70), Earl of Surrey and his senior commanders celebrated holy communion in Chapel of St John the Evangelist, Bolton [Map] two days before the battle where they pledged they would "defeat the Scots or die in the field".
The River Aln rises near Alnham, Northumberland [Map] from where it flows past Whittingham, Northumberland [Map], Bolton, Northumberland [Map], Hulne Priory, Northumberland [Map] then passing around Alnwick Castle, Northumberland [Map] before passing Lesbury, Northumberland [Map] then at Alnwick, Northumberland [Map] it joins the North Sea.
In 1898 Major-General George Lambert died at his home Bolton Hall, Northumberland [Map].
Sunderland Echo. 12th November 1914. Killed in Action. It is announced that Capt. John Mounsey Lambert (deceased), Northumberland Fusiliers, only son of the late Major-General and Mrs Lambert, of Bolton Hall [Map], Alnwick, was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle.
On 24th April 1919 Major Dudley Francis De Crespigny Buckle (age 42) died from wounds at the Bolton Hall, Northumberland [Map]; the home of his father-in-law Major-General George Lambert. He was buried at St John the Baptist Church, Edlingham [Map].
Major Dudley Francis De Crespigny Buckle: On 24th October 1876 he was born to Dudley William Buckle. On 21st December 1906 he and Helena Lambert were married.
Major-General George Lambert: he was born to John Lambert of Alnwick. Before 1883 he and Isabella Browne were married. In 1898 he died at his home Bolton Hall, Northumberland [Map].
On 3rd November 1806 Bryan Burrell (age 78) died. He was buried at the Chapel of St John the Evangelist, Bolton [Map].
In this Chancel are deposited the Remains of Bryan Burrell Esqre of Broome Park [Map], who departed this Life, November the 3rd Ano Domni 1806, Aged 78 Years Mary his Wife and Daughter of HENRY PARTRIDGE Esqre of Methwold in the County of Norfolk, who departed this Life, July the 12th Ano Domni 1776; Aged 28 Years. MARTHA his Sister, who departed this Life March the 17th Ano Domni 1806, Aged 68 Years. "Their Hope is full of Immortality"
Bryan Burrell: In 1728 he was born to William Burrell of Broome Park and Philadephia Grey. In May 1771 Bryan Burrell and Mary Partridge were married. The difference in their ages was 20 years.
