William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 20th June 1560 Francis Hastings 2nd Earl Huntingdon [aged 46] died. He was buried at the Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. His son Henry [aged 25] succeeded 3rd Earl Huntingdon, 8th Baron Botreaux, 7th Baron Hungerford, 5th Baron Moleyns and 5th Baron Hastings. After 20th June 1560. Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. Monument to Francis Hastings 2nd Earl Huntingdon [deceased] and Catherine Pole Countess Huntingdon [aged 49] by Richard Parker of Burton on Trent. Chest tomb with five sons on one side, five daughters on the other side, and eldest son on the end. Elizabethan Period. Leg Garter. Garter Robes. Widow's Barbe. Lancastrian Esses and Inter-twined Knots Collar. Feet resting on the Manticore badge of the Hasting's family.

Inscription: "Here lyeth ye corps of Francys late Erle of Hutyngdun, Lord Hastyngs, Hungerford, Botreaux, Molyns, and Moyles, Knight of ye honorable order of ye Garter, which deceased ye XXth daye of June ao Dni 1561: and ye ladie Katheryn, Countisse of Hutyngdon his wife, which deceased ye XXIIId daye of Sepbr anno dni 1576". Moved at least twice. Some restoration.

On 23rd September 1576 Catherine Pole Countess Huntingdon [aged 65] died. She was buried in the Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map] with her husband Francis Hastings 2nd Earl Huntingdon who had died sixteen years before. See Monument [Map].

On 14th December 1595 Henry Hastings 3rd Earl Huntingdon [aged 60] died at York [Map]. On 26th April 1596 Henry Hastings 3rd Earl Huntingdon was buried at Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. His brother George [aged 55] succeeded 4th Earl Huntingdon, 9th Baron Botreaux, 8th Baron Hungerford, 6th Baron Moleyns and 6th Baron Hastings. On 26th April 1596 Francis Hastings was buried at Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map].

1698. Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. Part of the monument to Francis Hastings 2nd Earl Huntingdon and Catherine Pole Countess Huntingdon constructed at the request of Theophilus Hastings 7th Earl Huntingdon [aged 47] in 1698 to repair damage caused during the Civil War at which time the monument was moved to the side of the chapel. The inscription of the Urn reads "Theophilus, Earl of Huntingdon, as a last service, caused this chapel to be decorated, and this tomb to be restored, in glorious memory of his most illustrious forefathers whose remains are buried here. Done in faith, 1698"."

The top armorial is of Francis Hastings 2nd Earl Huntingdon.

The bottom armorial is Catherine Pole Countess Huntingdon. Hers possibly bigger, and more prominent as a consequence of her royal ancestry. Quarters, some of which are also quartered. From top to bottom, left to right, somewhat speculatively:

Top Left Quarter: Left Side: Hastings Arms, Unknown Arms, Hungerford Arms, Unknown Arms. Right Side: Unknown Arms, Unknows Arms with frogs which may be a mis-represented version of De La Pole Arms.

Top Right Quarter: York Arms, Unknown Arms, Neville Arms differenced with a label three points argent, Beauchamp Arms, Beaumont Arms.

Bottom Left Quarter: Possible St John Arms, Unknown Arms, Hungerford Arms, Montagu Arms [Note. The or (gold) colour should be argent (white)?].

Bottom Right Corner. Holland Arms, Unknown Arms, Unknown Arms, Quartered: Clare Arms and Despencer Arms.

After 30th May 1701. Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. Monument to Theophilus Hastings 7th Earl Huntingdon [deceased] sculpted by Grinling Gibbons [aged 53].

After 13th November 1746. Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. Monument to Theophilus Hastings 9th Earl Huntingdon [deceased]. The bust in the roundel of his wife Selina Shirley Countess Huntingdon [aged 39] sculpted by John Michael Rysbrack [aged 52]. The monument was designed by William Kent. The obelisk sculpted by Joseph Pickford. The epitaph was written by Henry St John 1st Viscount Bolingbroke [aged 68].

Anne Boleyn. Her Life as told by Lancelot de Carle's 1536 Letter.

In 1536, two weeks after the execution of Anne Boleyn, her brother George and four others, Lancelot du Carle, wrote an extraordinary letter that described Anne's life, and her trial and execution, to which he was a witness. This book presents a new translation of that letter, with additional material from other contemporary sources such as Letters, Hall's and Wriothesley's Chronicles, the pamphlets of Wynkyn the Worde, the Memorial of George Constantyne, the Portuguese Letter and the Baga de Secrets, all of which are provided in Appendices.

Paulyn Reginald Serlo Rawdon-Hastings 3rd Marquess Hastings: On 2nd June 1832 he was born to George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings and Barbara Yelverton Marchioness Hastings. On 13th January 1844 George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings died. His son Paulyn succeeded 3rd Marquess Hastings, 8th Earl Loudon, 4th Earl Moira, 19th Baron Botreaux, 18th Baron Hungerford, 16th Baron Moleyns and 16th Baron Hastings. On 17th January 1851 Paulyn Reginald Serlo Rawdon-Hastings 3rd Marquess Hastings died. His brother Henry succeeded 4th Marquess Hastings, 9th Earl Loudon, 5th Earl Moira, 21st Baron Grey of Ruthyn, 20th Baron Botreaux, 19th Baron Hungerford, 17th Baron Moleyns and 17th Baron Hastings. Warner Hastings 15th Earl Huntingdon: On 8th July 1868 he was born to Francis Power Plantagenet Hastings 14th Earl Huntingdon and Mary Anne Westenra Countess Huntingdon at St Stephen's Green, Dublin. On 20th May 1885 Francis Power Plantagenet Hastings 14th Earl Huntingdon died. His son Warner succeeded 15th Earl Huntingdon. On 11th June 1892 Warner Hastings 15th Earl Huntingdon and Maud Margaret Wilson Countess Huntingdon were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square. She by marriage Countess Huntingdon. He the son of Francis Power Plantagenet Hastings 14th Earl Huntingdon and Mary Anne Westenra Countess Huntingdon. On 5th April 1939 Warner Hastings 15th Earl Huntingdon died. He was buried at Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. His son Francis succeeded 16th Earl Huntingdon. Maud Margaret Wilson Countess Huntingdon: In 1868 she was born to Samuel Wilson in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. On 26th December 1952 she died.

After 13th October 1915. Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. Monument to Captain Paulyn Charles James Reginald Abney-Hastings [deceased] and Edward Hugh Hastings Abney-Hastings [deceased], brothers, who died on active service within one month of one another.

Captain Paulyn Charles James Reginald Abney-Hastings: On 27th November 1889 he was born to Major Paulyn Abney-Hastings and Maud Grimston. On 13th October 1915 Captain Paulyn Charles James Reginald Abney-Hastings was killed in action at the attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt. Captain Rawdon-Hastings decided to attempt a bayonet attack and led his men.

Edward Hugh Hastings Abney-Hastings: On 31st August 1895 he was born to Major Paulyn Abney-Hastings and Maud Grimston.

Isabel Jacqueline Rawdon-Hastings: On 8th August 1887 she was born to Major Paulyn Abney-Hastings and Maud Grimston. On 20th September 1916 Major Hubert James Cecil Rostron and she were married. On 14th July 1917 Isabel Jacqueline Rawdon-Hastings died.

Major Hubert James Cecil Rostron: On 14th February 1875 he was born to Simpson Rostron of Beddington in Surrey. On 2nd December 1926 he died.

On 5th April 1939 Warner Hastings 15th Earl Huntingdon [aged 70] died. He was buried at Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. His son Francis [aged 38] succeeded 16th Earl Huntingdon. Cristina Casati Stampa di Soncino Countess Huntingdon [aged 38] by marriage Countess Huntingdon.

In or after 1990. Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. Monument to Lieutenant-Colonel Robin Hood William Stewart Hastings [aged 72].

Lieutenant-Colonel Robin Hood William Stewart Hastings: On 16th January 1917 he was born to Osmond William Toome Westenra Hastings. On 25th May 1950 Lieutenant-Colonel Robin Hood William Stewart Hastings and Jean Suzanne Palethorpe were married. On 28th March 1990 Lieutenant-Colonel Robin Hood William Stewart Hastings died.

On 24th August 1990 Francis Hastings 16th Earl Huntingdon [aged 89] died. He was buried at Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. His first cousin once removed William [aged 42] succeeded 17th Earl Huntingdon.

After 24th August 1990. Hasting's Chapel, St Helen's Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch [Map]. Monument to Francis Hastings 16th Earl Huntingdon [deceased] and his wife Margaret Lane Countess Huntingdon [aged 83].

Margaret Lane Countess Huntingdon: On 23rd June 1907 she was born. On 14th February 1944 Francis Hastings 16th Earl Huntingdon and she were married. She by marriage Countess Huntingdon. He the son of Warner Hastings 15th Earl Huntingdon and Maud Margaret Wilson Countess Huntingdon. On 14th February 1994 she died.

Moorea Hastings: On 4th March 1928 she was born to Francis Hastings 16th Earl Huntingdon and Cristina Casati Stampa di Soncino Countess Huntingdon. On 22nd June 1957 Woodrow Lyle Wyatt Baron Wyatt of Weeford and she were married They were divorced in 1966. She married again on 11th January 1967. She the daughter of Francis Hastings 16th Earl Huntingdon and Cristina Casati Stampa di Soncino Countess Huntingdon. On 11th January 1967 Brinsley Graham Black and she were married. She the daughter of Francis Hastings 16th Earl Huntingdon and Cristina Casati Stampa di Soncino Countess Huntingdon. On 21st October 2011 Moorea Hastings died.
