Diary of Isabella Twysden 1645. 8th February 1645. the 8 febri, I. came to peckham [Map] great with child, and ride all the waye a hors back, and I thank god had no hurt.
On 2nd November 1752 Bishop Philip Twysden (age 39) died at Jermyn Street. Possibly East Peckham, Surrey [Map]. Somewhat curously his death was embroiled in a scandal that suggested he had, as a result of his impeecunious situation, been shot whilst attempting to rob a stagecoch.
The River Medway rises near Turners Hill [Map] from where it flows through Wood Weir Reservoir [Map], past Forest Row [Map], between Hartwell [Map] and Hartfield [Map], after which it is joined by the River Grom, past Ashurst, Kent [Map], Hedge Barton, Kent [Map], Penshurst, Kent [Map], under Ensfield Bridge, Kent [Map], through Tonbridge, Kent [Map], past East Peckham, Surrey [Map], Nettlestead, Kent [Map], under Teston Bridge, Kent [Map], under Kettle Bridge, Kent [Map] and East Farleigh Bridge, Kent [Map], through Maidstone, Kent [Map].
After Maidstone the river flows past Aylesford, Kent [Map], Burnham Causewayed Enclosure [Map] and Wouldham, Kent [Map] to Rochester, Kent [Map].

Diary of Isabella Twysden: Introduction. 3rd August 1563. Sir Roger was arrested in April 1642 and imprisoned by the Parliament for his share in supporting the Petition of Kent, which asked that all things should be done according to law. His estates were sequestrated and Lady Isabella was granted a fifth part of the incomings for her maintenance at Roydon Hall. His Journal is printed in the first four volumes of Archceologia Cantiana. In Additional MSS. 34161 there is a letter written by Sir Roger, dated May 1642.
