The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

Before 25th October 1445 William Bourchier Baron Fitzwarin (age 29) and Thomasine Hankford 9th Baroness Fitzwarin (age 22) were married. He by marriage Baron Fitzwarin. He the son of William Bourchier 1st Count of Eu and Anne of Gloucester Plantagenet Countess Eu and Stafford.

In 1453 Thomasine Hankford 9th Baroness Fitzwarin (age 30) died. Her son Fulk (age 7) succeeded 10th Baron Fitzwarin.

Before 20th July 1470 Fulk Bourchier 10th Baron Fitzwarin (age 24) and Elizabeth Dynham Baroness Fitzwarin were married. She by marriage Baroness Fitzwarin.

On 18th September 1479 Fulk Bourchier 10th Baron Fitzwarin (age 33) died. He was buried at St Brannock's Church, Braunton. His son John (age 9) succeeded 11th Baron Fitzwarin.

In or shortly before 1499 John Bourchier 1st Earl Bath (age 28) and Cecily Daubeney Baroness Fitzwarin (age 24) were married. She by marriage Baroness Fitzwarin. They were fifth cousin once removed. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

On 30th April 1539 John Bourchier 1st Earl Bath (age 68) died. He was buried at St Brannock's Church, Braunton. His son John (age 40) succeeded 2nd Earl Bath, 4th Count Eu, 12th Baron Fitzwarin. Eleanor Manners Countess Bath (age 36) by marriage Countess Bath.

On 10th February 1561 John Bourchier 2nd Earl Bath (age 62) died. He was buried on 10th March 1561 at the Church of St John Lateran, Hengrave. His grandson William (age 3) succeeded 3rd Earl Bath, 13th Baron Fitzwarin, 4th Baron Daubeney

On 12th July 1623 William Bourchier 3rd Earl Bath (age 65) died. His son Edward (age 33) succeeded 4th Earl Bath, 14th Baron Fitzwarin, 5th Baron Daubeney.

On 2nd March 1637 Edward Bourchier 4th Earl Bath (age 47) died. He was buried at St Peter's Church, Tawstock [Map]. His first cousin once removed Henry (age 50) succeeded 5th Earl Bath. Baron Daubeney and Baron Fitzwarin abeyant between his three daughters Elizabeth Bourchier Countess Denbigh (age 11), Dorothy Bourchier (age 10) and Anne Bourchier Countess Middlesex (age 6) and their coheirs.
