The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

The King has also been pleased to grant the Dignity of a Baron of the Kingdom of Great Britain to the Right Honourable Sir James Harris (age 42), Knight of the Bath, His Majesty's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the States General of the United Provinces, and the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten, by the Name, Stile and Title of Lord Malmesbury, Baron of Malmesbury, in the County of Wilts.
The King has been pleased to appoint Charles Whitworth (age 36), Esq; to be His Majesty's Envoy Extradinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Court of Petersburgh.

On 10th September 1841 James Edward Harris 2nd Earl Malmesbury (age 63) died. His son James (age 34) succeeded 3rd Earl Malmesbury, 3rd Viscount Fitz-Harris of Hurn Court in Hampshire, 3rd Baron Malmesbury.
On 17th May 1889 James Harris 3rd Earl Malmesbury (age 82) died. His nephew Edward (age 47) succeeded 4th Earl Malmesbury, 4th Viscount Fitz-Harris of Hurn Court in Hampshire, 4th Baron Malmesbury. Sylvia Georgina Stewart Countess of Malmesbury by marriage Countess Malmesbury.
On 19th May 1899 Edward Harris 4th Earl Malmesbury (age 57) died. His son James (age 26) succeeded 5th Earl Malmesbury, 5th Viscount Fitz-Harris of Hurn Court in Hampshire, 5th Baron Malmesbury.
On 12th June 1950 James Edward Harris 5th Earl Malmesbury (age 77) died. His son William (age 42) succeeded 6th Earl Malmesbury, 6th Viscount Fitz-Harris of Hurn Court in Hampshire, 6th Baron Malmesbury. Diana Claudia Carleton Countess of Malmesbury (age 37) by marriage Countess Malmesbury.
On 11th November 2000 William James Harris 6th Earl Malmesbury (age 92) died. His son James (age 54) succeeded 7th Earl Malmesbury, 7th Viscount Fitz-Harris of Hurn Court in Hampshire, 7th Baron Malmesbury.
