The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 16th August 1624 Henry Belasyse 1st Baronet (age 69) died. He was buried in St Saviour's Church, York [Map]. His son Thomas (age 47) succeeded 2nd Baronet Belasyse of Newborough.

On 18th April 1653 Thomas Belasyse 1st Viscount Fauconberg (age 76) died. His grandson Thomas (age 26) succeeded 2nd Viscount Faunconberg, 3rd Baronet Belasyse of Newborough.

On 31st December 1700 Thomas Belasyse 1st Earl Fauconberg (age 73) died without issue. Earl Fauconberg extinct. His nephew Thomas succeeded 3rd Viscount Faunconberg, 4th Baronet Belasyse of Newborough. Bridget Gage Viscountess Fauconberg (age 25) by marriage Viscountess Faunconberg.

On 26th November 1718 Thomas Belasyse 3rd Viscount Fauconberg died. His son Thomas (age 19) succeeded 4th Viscount Faunconberg, 5th Baronet Belasyse of Newborough.

On 8th February 1774 Thomas Belasyse 1st Earl Fauconberg (age 74) died. His son Henry (age 31) succeeded 2nd Earl Fauconberg, 5th Viscount Faunconberg, 6th Baronet Belasyse of Newborough.

On 23rd March 1802 Henry Belasyse 2nd Earl Fauconberg (age 59) died without male issue. Earl Fauconberg extinct. His second cousin Rowland (age 52) succeeded 6th Viscount Faunconberg, 7th Baronet Belasyse of Newborough.

In 1810 Rowland Belasyse 6th Viscount Fauconberg (age 60) died without issue. His brother Charles (age 59) succeeded 7th Viscount Faunconberg, 8th Baronet Belasyse of Newborough.

In 1815 Reverend Charles Belasyse 7th Viscount Fauconberg (age 64) died without issue. Viscount Faunconberg and Baronet Belasyse of Newborough extinct.
