All About History Books

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1643 Samuel Danvers 1st Baronet (age 32) was created 1st Baronet D'Anvers of Culworth in Northamptonshire. Anne Pope Lady D'Anvers (age 27) by marriage Lady D'Anvers of Culworth in Northamptonshire.

In 1682 Samuel Danvers 1st Baronet (age 71) died. His son Pope (age 37) succeeded 2nd Baronet D'Anvers of Culworth in Northamptonshire.

On 14th May 1712 Pope Danvers 2nd Baronet (age 67) died. He was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Culworth [Map]. His son John (age 38) succeeded 3rd Baronet D'Anvers of Culworth in Northamptonshire.

On 26th September 1744 John Danvers 3rd Baronet (age 71) died. He was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Culworth [Map]. His son Henry (age 13) succeeded 4th Baronet D'Anvers of Culworth in Northamptonshire.

On 13th August 1758 Henry D'Anvers 4th Baronet (age 27) died. His brother Michael (age 19) succeeded 5th Baronet D'Anvers of Culworth in Northamptonshire.

On 20th August 1776 Michael D'Anvers 5th Baronet (age 37) died unmarried. Baronet D'Anvers of Culworth in Northamptonshire extinct.

Baronet Danvers of Swithland in Leicestershire 2nd Creation 1746

In 1746 Joseph Danvers 1st Baronet (age 59) was created 1st Baronet Danvers of Swithland in Leicestershire. Frances Babington Lady D'Anvers by marriage Lady Danvers of Swithland in Leicestershire.

On 24th October 1753 Joseph Danvers 1st Baronet (age 66) died. He was buried in a tomb built half inside the graveyard and half outside on Danvers' estate to allow his favourite dog to be buried with him (the dog being buried on unconsecrated ground) at St Leonard's Church Swithland Charnwood, Leicestershire. His son John (age 31) succeeded 2nd Baronet Danvers of Swithland in Leicestershire.

In 1796 John Danvers 2nd Baronet (age 74) died. Baronet Danvers of Swithland in Leicestershire extinct.
