Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans

Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

In 1705 William Fleming 1st Baronet [aged 49] was created 1st Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria. The Baronetcy appears to have been created with a special remainder to heirs male of his father Daniel Fleming of Rydal Hall [aged 71] since his brothers and their decendants succeeded to the Baronetcy.

In 1736 William Fleming 1st Baronet [aged 80] died. His brother George [aged 69] succeeded 2nd Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 2nd July 1747 Bishop George Fleming 2nd Baronet [aged 80] died. His nephew William succeeded 3rd Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

In 1756 William Fleming 3rd Baronet died. His son Michael [aged 7] succeeded 4th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 23rd November 1782 Michael le Fleming 4th Baronet [aged 33] and Diana Howard Lady le Fleming [aged 32] were married at St James' Church, Piccadilly. She by marriage Lady Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria. She the daughter of Thomas Howard 14th Earl Suffolk 7th Earl Berkshire [aged 61].

On 19th May 1806 Michael le Fleming 4th Baronet [aged 57] died. He was buried at St Oswald's Church, Grasmere where he and his wife's memorial reads "To the memory of Sir Michael Le Fleming, fourth Baronet, M,P., of Ryall Hall, Westmorland, born 10th December 1748, died 19th May 1806, also of his wife Lady Diana [aged 56] only child of Thomas Howard, 14th Earl of Suffolk & Berkshire, who died 20th June 1816, and of their only child Ann Frederica Elizabeth, relict of Sir Daniel Fleming [aged 21] fifth Baronet, died at Rydal Hall 5th April 1861 aged 77."

Daniel Fleming 5th Baronet succeeded 5th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 4th February 1807 Daniel Fleming 5th Baronet [aged 22] and Ann Frederica Elizabeth Fleming Lady Fleming [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Lady Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria. They were third cousins.

On 18th October 1820 Daniel Fleming 5th Baronet [aged 35] died without issue. His brother Richard [aged 28] succeeded 6th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 3rd April 1857 Reverend Richard le Fleming 6th Baronet [aged 65] died. His son Michael [aged 28] succeeded 7th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria. Elizabeth Boddie Lady Fleming [aged 37] by marriage Lady Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

Anne Boleyn. Her Life as told by Lancelot de Carle's 1536 Letter.

In 1536, two weeks after the execution of Anne Boleyn, her brother George and four others, Lancelot du Carle, wrote an extraordinary letter that described Anne's life, and her trial and execution, to which he was a witness. This book presents a new translation of that letter, with additional material from other contemporary sources such as Letters, Hall's and Wriothesley's Chronicles, the pamphlets of Wynkyn the Worde, the Memorial of George Constantyne, the Portuguese Letter and the Baga de Secrets, all of which are provided in Appendices.

On 21st May 1883 Michael Fleming 7th Baronet [aged 55] died at Rangiora, Christchurch. His son Andrew [aged 28] succeeded 8th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 20th October 1925 Andrew Fleming Hudleston le Fleming 8th Baronet [aged 70] died at Dunedin, New Zealand without issue. His first cousin William [aged 64] succeeded 9th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 31st October 1945 William Hudleston le Fleming 9th Baronet [aged 84] died. His son Frank [aged 56] succeeded 10th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 5th July 1971 Frank Thomas le Fleming 10th Baronet [aged 82] died. His son William [aged 49] succeeded 11th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 1st November 1988 William Kelland le Fleming [aged 66] died. His son Quentin [aged 39] succeeded 12th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.

On 4th March 1995 Quentin John le Fleming 12th Baronet [aged 45] died. His son David [aged 19] succeeded 13th Baronet Fleming of Rydal in Cumbria.
