The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1550 Walter Devereux 1st Viscount Hereford (age 62) was created 1st Viscount Hereford. Margaret Garneys Viscountess Hereford (age 30) by marriage Viscountess Hereford.
On 17th September 1558 Walter Devereux 1st Viscount Hereford (age 70) died. His grandson Walter (age 17) succeeded 2nd Viscount Hereford, 11th Baron Ferrers of Chartley.
Around 1561 Walter Devereux 1st Earl Essex (age 19) and Lettice Knollys Countess Essex (age 17) were married. She by marriage Viscountess Hereford. They were fourth cousins.
On 22nd September 1576 Walter Devereux 1st Earl Essex (age 35) died. His son Robert (age 10) succeeded 2nd Earl Essex, 3rd Viscount Hereford, 12th Baron Ferrers of Chartley, 9th Baron Bourchier.
On 25th February 1601 Robert Devereux 2nd Earl Essex (age 35) was beheaded at Tower Green, Tower of London [Map] as a consequence of his involvement in the Essex Rebellion. Earl Essex, Viscount Hereford, Baron Bourchier and Baron Ferrers of Chartley forfeit. He was the last person to be executed at the Tower of London. It isn't clear whether his other titles Viscount Hereford, Baron Ferrers of Chartley and Baron Bourchier were forfeit.
In 1604 Robert Devereux 3rd Earl Essex (age 12) was restored 3rd Earl Essex, 4th Viscount Hereford, 13th Baron Ferrers of Chartley, 10th Baron Bourchier although it isn't clear whether the latter three titles were forfeit when his father was executed in 1601. Frances Howard Countess Essex and Somerset (age 13) by marriage Countess Essex.
On 14th September 1646 Robert Devereux 3rd Earl Essex (age 55) died. He was buried at Westminster Abbey [Map]. Earl Essex extinct. His half first cousin twice removed Walter (age 71) succeeded 5th Viscount Hereford. Baron Ferrers of Chartley, Baron Bourchier abeyant.
In 1656 Walter Devereux 5th Viscount Hereford (age 81) died. His son Leicester (age 39) succeeded 6th Viscount Hereford, 3rd Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich. Priscilla Catchpole Viscountess Hereford by marriage Viscountess Hereford.
On 1st December 1676 Leicester Devereux 6th Viscount Hereford (age 59) died. His son Leicester (age 2) succeeded 7th Viscount Hereford, 4th Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich.
In 1683 Leicester Devereux 7th Viscount Hereford (age 9) died. His brother Edward (age 8) succeeded 8th Viscount Hereford, 5th Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich.
In 1700 Edward Devereux 8th Viscount Hereford (age 25) died. His second cousin Price (age 37) succeeded 9th Viscount Hereford, 6th Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich. Mary Sandys by marriage Viscountess Hereford.
On 3rd October 1740 Price Devereux 9th Viscount Hereford (age 77) died. His son Price (age 46) succeeded 10th Viscount Hereford, 7th Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich.
On 29th July 1748 Price Devereux 10th Viscount Hereford (age 54) died. His second cousin Edward (age 38) succeeded 11th Viscount Hereford, 8th Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich

On 12th December 1805 Henry Devereux 14th Viscount Hereford (age 28) and Frances Elizabeth Cornewall Viscountess Hereford (age 22) were married. They had five sons and one daughter. She by marriage Viscountess Hereford.
On 31st May 1843 Henry Devereux 14th Viscount Hereford (age 66) died. His son Robert (age 34) succeeded 15th Viscount Hereford, 12th Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich.
On 18th August 1855 Robert Devereux 15th Viscount Hereford (age 46) died. His son Robert (age 12) succeeded 16th Viscount Hereford, 13th Baronet Devereux of Castle Bromwich.
On 16th July 1863 Robert Devereux 16th Viscount Hereford (age 20) and Mary Anna Morgan Viscountess Hereford were married. She by marriage Viscountess Hereford.
