His Majesty has been pleased to grant to the Reverend William Nelson (age 48), D.D. now Lord Nelson, Brother and Heir to the late Lord Viscount Nelson (deceased), who, after a Series of transcendant and heroic Services, fell gloriously on the 21st of October last, in the Moment of brilliant and decisive Victory, the Dignity of a Viscount and Earl of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, by the Names, Stiles, and Titles, of Viscount Merton and Earl Nelson, of Trafalgar, and of Merton, in the County of Surrey, the same to descend to the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten, aud in default thereof, to the Heirs Male successively of Susanne (age 50), Wife of Thomas Bolton Esq; and Catherine, Wife of George Matcham Esq; Sisters of the late Lord Viscount Nelson. His Majesty has also been pleased to grant the Dignity of a Baron of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, to Cuthbert Collingwood (age 57) Esq; Vice-Admiral of the Blue Squadron of His Majesty's Fleet, and the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten, by the Name, Stile, and Title of Baron Collingwood of Caldburne and Hethpoole in the County of Northumberland.

On 28th February 1835 Reverend William Nelson 1st Earl Nelson (age 77) died. His nephew Thomas (age 48) succeeded 2nd Earl Nelson of Trafalgar and Merson in Surrey, 2nd Viscount Merton and changed his surname from Bolton to Nelson.

On 1st November 1835 Thomas Bolton aka Nelson 2nd Earl Nelson (age 49) died. His son Horatio (age 12) succeeded 3rd Earl Nelson of Trafalgar and Merson in Surrey, 3rd Viscount Merton.

On 25th February 1913 Horatio Nelson 3rd Earl Nelson (age 89) died. His son Thomas (age 55) succeeded 4th Earl Nelson of Trafalgar and Merson in Surrey, 4th Viscount Merton.

On 30th September 1947 Thomas Nelson 4th Earl Nelson (age 89) died. His brother Edward (age 87) succeeded 5th Earl Nelson of Trafalgar and Merson in Surrey, 5th Viscount Merton.

On 30th January 1951 Edward Nelson 5th Earl Nelson (age 90) died. His son Albert (age 60) succeeded 6th Earl Nelson of Trafalgar and Merson in Surrey, 6th Viscount Merton.

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 21st September 1981 George Nelson 8th Earl Nelson (age 76) died. His nephew Peter (age 39) succeeded 9th Earl Nelson of Trafalgar and Merson in Surrey, 9th Viscount Merton.

On 28th March 2009 Peter Nelson 9th Earl Nelson (age 67) died. His son Simon (age 37) succeeded 10th Earl Nelson of Trafalgar and Merson in Surrey, 10th Viscount Merton.
