The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1789 Thomas Townshend 1st Viscount Sydney (age 55) was created 1st Viscount Sydney. Elizabeth Powys Viscountess Sydney (age 52) by marriage Viscountess Sydney.
On 30th June 1800 Thomas Townshend 1st Viscount Sydney (age 67) died. His son John (age 36) succeeded 2nd Viscount Sydney.
On 27th May 1802 John Townshend 2nd Viscount Sydney (age 38) and Caroline Elizabeth Letitia Clements Viscountess Sydney (age 37) were married. She by marriage Viscountess Sydney. She the daughter of Robert Clements 1st Earl Leitrim (age 69) and Elizabeth Skeffington Countess Leitrim.
On 20th January 1831 John Townshend 2nd Viscount Sydney (age 66) died. His son John (age 25) succeeded 3rd Viscount Sydney.
On 14th February 1890 John Robert Townshend 1st Earl Sydney (age 84) died. Earl Sydney of Scadbury in Kent and Viscount Sydney extinct.
