Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans
Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

On 21st August 1930 Princess Margaret was born to [her father] King George VI of the United Kingdom [aged 34] and [her mother] Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon Queen Consort England [aged 30] at Glamis Castle.
On 30th October 1930 Princess Margaret was baptised at the Chapel Buckingham Palace by Archbishop Cosmo Gordon Lang [aged 65]. Her aunt Rose Constance Bowes-Lyon Countess Granville [aged 40] was godmother.
On 11th December 1936 [her uncle] King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom [aged 42] abdicated VIII King of the United Kingdom. [her father] King George VI of the United Kingdom [aged 40] succeeded VI King of the United Kingdom. Duke York merged with the Crown.
Before 25th April 1939 Thomas William Anson [aged 26] and Anne Ferelith Bowes-Lyon [aged 21] were married at St Margaret's Church, Westminster [Map]. The wedding was attended by the [her father] King [aged 43] and [her mother] Queen [aged 38], Princesses [her sister] Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom [aged 13] and Princess Margaret [aged 8] - see Pathe. He the son of Thomas Edward Anson 4th Earl Lichfield [aged 55] and Evelyn Maud Keppel Countess Lichfield [aged 52].
On 26th April 1943 Alastair Windsor 2nd Duke Connaught and Strathearn [aged 28] died at Ottawa. He was buried at St Ninian's Chapel, Mar Lodge Estate. Duke Connaught and Strathearn extinct. The diaries of Sir Alan Lascelles [aged 56], [her father] King George VI's [aged 47] private secretary, published in 2006, recorded that both the regiment and Athlone had rejected him as incompetent, and he fell out of a window when drunk and perished of hypothermia overnight.
On 21st October 1947 David Allan Bethell 5th Baron Westbury [aged 25] and Ursula James [aged 23] were married at St Martin in the Fields Church [Map]. Princesses [her sister] Elizabeth [aged 21] and Margaret [aged 17] attended the wedding, as did the [her uncle] Duke [aged 47] and Duchess [aged 45] of Gloucester.
On 20th November 1947 [her brother-in-law] Philip Mountbatten Duke Edinburgh [aged 26] and [her sister] Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom [aged 21] were married at Westminster Abbey [Map]. She the daughter of [her father] King George VI of the United Kingdom [aged 51] and [her mother] Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon Queen Consort England [aged 47]. They were second cousin once removed. He a great x 2 grandson of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.
On 29th September 1949 George Henry Hubert Lascelles 7th Earl Harewood [aged 26] and Marion Stein Countess Harewood [aged 22] were married at St Mark's Church North Audley Street. [her father] King George VI of the United Kingdom [aged 53], his uncle, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon Queen Consort England [aged 49], Victoria Mary Teck Queen Consort England [aged 82] Princess Mary Windsor Countess Harewood [aged 52], his mother, and other members of the Royal family attended the wedding. He the son of Henry Lascelles 6th Earl Harewood and Princess Mary Windsor Countess Harewood.
Marion Stein Countess Harewood: On 18th October 1926 she was born at Vienna [Map]. On 6th March 2014 she died.
On 16th September 1950 Prince George Valdemar Carl Axel of Denmark [aged 30] and Anne Ferelith Bowes-Lyon [aged 32] were married at Glamis Castle. As a consequence of the marriage being between a divorced person whose spouse was still living the Church of England opposed the marriage and ordered the withdrawal of the Scottish Episcopal clergyman. The [her mother] Queen [aged 50] stated that she would join the wedding party only for the reception and would remain in an adjoining drawing room while the ceremony took place.
On 6th February 1952 [her father] King George VI of the United Kingdom [aged 56] died at Sandringham Estate, Norfolk. He was buried at King George VI Memorial Chapel, St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle [Map]. His daughter [her sister] Elizabeth [aged 25] succeeded II Queen of the United Kingdom; she was at her Kenyan home Sagana Lodge.
On 10th January 1953 Walter Francis Montagu-Douglas-Scott 9th Duke Buccleuch 11th Duke Queensberry [aged 29] and Jane McNeill Duchess of Buccleuch [aged 23] were married at St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh. The ceremony was attended by [her sister] Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom [aged 26] and the [her brother-in-law] Duke of Edinburgh [aged 31] as well as a number of other members of the Royal family. He the son of Walter Scott 8th Duke Buccleuch 10th Duke Queensberry [aged 58] and Vreda Lascelles Duchess Buccleuch and Queensbury [aged 52].
Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

On 30th June 1958 Princess Margaret [aged 27] unveiled a tablet to commemorate the restoration of St Laurence's Church, Ludlow [Map].
On 6th May 1960 Antony Armstrong-Jones 1st Earl of Snowdon [aged 30] and Princess Margaret [aged 29] were married at Westminster Abbey [Map]. The ceremony was the first royal wedding to be broadcast on television. She the daughter of King George VI of the United Kingdom and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon Queen Consort England [aged 59].
Colin Tennant 3rd Baron Glenconner [aged 33] and Anne Veronica Coke Baroness Glenconner [aged 27], whose wedding the couple had attended four years before, offered them a piece of land on their privately owned island, Mustique, and agreed to build a house for the couple on the land. It was designed in 1971 by uncle to Lord Snowdon, Oliver Messel, and named "Les Jolies Eaux" aka "The Pretty Waters"
On 3rd October 1961 [her son] David Armstrong-Jones 2nd Earl of Snowdon was born to [her husband] Antony Armstrong-Jones 1st Earl of Snowdon [aged 31] and Princess Margaret [aged 31] at Clarence House. He a grandson of King George VI of the United Kingdom. He married 8th October 1993 Serena Alleyne Stanhope Countess of Snowdon, daughter of Charles Stanhope 12th Earl of Harrington.
On 6th October 1961 [her husband] Antony Armstrong-Jones 1st Earl of Snowdon [aged 31] was created 1st Earl Snowdon, 1st Viscount Linley.
On 8th October 1993 David Armstrong-Jones 2nd Earl of Snowdon [aged 32] and Serena Stanhope [aged 23] were married. She the daughter of Charles Stanhope 12th Earl of Harrington [aged 48]. He the son of Antony Armstrong-Jones 1st Earl of Snowdon [aged 63] and Princess Margaret [aged 63].
On 9th February 2002 Princess Margaret [aged 71] died at King Edward VII's Hospital. She was buried at King George VI Memorial Chapel, St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle [Map].
On 13th January 2017 [her former husband] Antony Armstrong-Jones 1st Earl of Snowdon [aged 86] died. His son David [aged 55] succeeded 2nd Earl Snowdon, 2nd Viscount Linley. Serena Stanhope [aged 46] by marriage Countess Snowdon.
