Biography of Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings 1754-1826

On 10th November 1741 [his father] John Rawdon 1st Earl Moira (age 21) and Helena Perceval were married.

On 23rd December 1746 [his father] John Rawdon 1st Earl Moira (age 26) and Anne Hill were married.

In August 1751 [his father] John Rawdon 1st Earl Moira (age 31) and [his mother] Elizabeth Hastings Countess Moira (age 20) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Theophilus Hastings 9th Earl Huntingdon and [his grandmother] Selina Shirley Countess Huntingdon (age 44).

On 9th December 1754 Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings was born to John Rawdon 1st Earl Moira (age 34) and Elizabeth Hastings Countess Moira (age 23).

On 2nd October 1789 [his uncle] Francis Hastings 10th Earl Huntingdon (age 60) died unmarried at the home of his nephew Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 34). His fifth cousin once removed Theophilus (age 60) de jure 11th Earl Huntingdon although he wasn't aware of the fact. His sister [his mother] Elizabeth (age 58) succeeded 16th Baroness Botreaux, 15th Baroness Hungerford, 13th Baroness Moleyns and 13th Baroness Hastings

On 20th June 1793 [his father] John Rawdon 1st Earl Moira (age 73) died. His son Francis (age 38) succeeded 2nd Earl Moira.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 12th July 1804 Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 49) and Flora Mure-Campbell Marchioness of Hastings (age 24) were married. The difference in their ages was 25 years. She the daughter of James Mure-Campbell 5th Earl Loudon. He the son of John Rawdon 1st Earl Moira and Elizabeth Hastings Countess Moira (age 73).

On 11th February 1806 [his daughter] Flora Elizabeth Rawdon-Hastings was born to Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 51) and [his wife] Flora Mure-Campbell Marchioness of Hastings (age 26).

In 1807 [his son] Francis George Augustus Rawdon-Hastings was born to Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 52) and [his wife] Flora Mure-Campbell Marchioness of Hastings (age 27).

On 4th February 1808 [his son] George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings 2nd Marquess Hastings was born to Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 53) and [his wife] Flora Mure-Campbell Marchioness of Hastings (age 28).

On 11th April 1808 [his mother] Elizabeth Hastings Countess Moira (age 77) died. Her son Francis (age 53) succeeded 17th Baron Botreaux, 16th Baron Hungerford, 14th Baron Moleyns and 14th Baron Hastings.

On 1st February 1809 [his daughter] Sophia Frederica Christina Rawdon-Hastings Marchioness Bute was born to Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 54) and [his wife] Flora Mure-Campbell Marchioness of Hastings (age 29).

In 1810 [his daughter] Selina Constance Rawdon-Hastings was born to Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 55) and [his wife] Flora Mure-Campbell Marchioness of Hastings (age 30).

In 1812 Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 57) was appointed 638th Knight of the Garter by King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland (age 49) during the Regency.

On 25th February 1812 [his daughter] Adelaide Augusta Lavinia Rawdon-Hastings was born to Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 57) and [his wife] Flora Mure-Campbell Marchioness of Hastings (age 32).

On 6th December 1816 Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 61) was created 1st Marquess Hastings. [his wife] Flora Mure-Campbell Marchioness of Hastings (age 36) by marriage Marchioness Hastings.

On 28th November 1826 Francis Rawdon-Hastings 1st Marquess Hastings (age 71) died. His son [his son] George (age 18) succeeded 2nd Marquess Hastings, 3rd Earl Moira, 18th Baron Botreaux, 17th Baron Hungerford, 15th Baron Moleyns and 15th Baron Hastings.
