The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 7th December 1627 Luise Henriette Orange Nassau was born to Frederick Henry Orange Nassau II Prince Orange (age 43) and Amalia Solms Braunfels Princess Orange (age 25).

John Evelyn's Diary. 10th September 1641. I took waggon for Dort, to be present at the reception of the Queen-mother, Marie de Medicis (age 66), Dowager of France, widow of Henry the Great, and mother to the French King, Louis XIII (age 39), and the Queen of England (age 31), whence she newly arrived, tossed to and fro by the various fortune of her life. From this city, she designed for Cologne, conducted by the Earl of Arundel (age 14) and the Herr Van Bredrod. At this interview, I saw the [her mother] Princess of Orange (age 39), and the lady her daughter (age 13), afterwards married to the House of Brandenburgh. There was little remarkable in this reception befitting the greatness of her person; but an universal discontent, which accompanied that unlucky woman wherever she went.

On 7th December 1646 Frederick William "Great Elector" Hohenzollern Elector Brandenburg (age 26) and Luise Henriette Orange Nassau (age 19) were married at The Hague. They were half first cousin once removed.

On 14th March 1647 [her father] Frederick Henry Orange Nassau II Prince Orange (age 63) died. His son [her brother] William (age 20) succeeded II Prince Orange. Mary Stewart Princess Orange (age 15) by marriage Princess Orange.

In 1648 [her son] William Henry Hohenzollern was born to [her husband] Frederick William "Great Elector" Hohenzollern Elector Brandenburg (age 27) and Luise Henriette Orange Nassau (age 20).

In 1649 [her son] William Henry Hohenzollern (age 1) died.

On 16th February 1655 [her son] Charles Hohenzollern was born to [her husband] Frederick William "Great Elector" Hohenzollern Elector Brandenburg (age 35) and Luise Henriette Orange Nassau (age 27) at Berlin.

On 11th July 1657 [her son] Frederick I King Prussia was born to [her husband] Frederick William "Great Elector" Hohenzollern Elector Brandenburg (age 37) and Luise Henriette Orange Nassau (age 29).

In 1664 [her son] Amalie Hohenzollern was born to [her husband] Frederick William "Great Elector" Hohenzollern Elector Brandenburg (age 43) and Luise Henriette Orange Nassau (age 36).

On 13th June 1668 [her former husband] Frederick William "Great Elector" Hohenzollern Elector Brandenburg (age 48) and Sophia Dorothea Oldenburg (age 31) were married. They were fifth cousins.

On 29th April 1688 [her former husband] Frederick William "Great Elector" Hohenzollern Elector Brandenburg (age 68) died.
