On 28th November 1843 [his father] Charles Gordon-Lennox 6th Duke Richmond [aged 25] and [his mother] Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond [aged 19] were married. He the son of [his grandfather] Charles Gordon-Lennox 5th Duke Richmond [aged 52] and [his grandmother] Caroline Paget Duchess Richmond [aged 47]. They were sixth cousins. He a great x 4 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 27th December 1845 Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond was born to [his father] Charles Gordon-Lennox 6th Duke Richmond [aged 27] and [his mother] Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond [aged 21].

On 21st October 1860 [his grandfather] Charles Gordon-Lennox 5th Duke Richmond [aged 69] died. His son [his father] Charles [aged 42] succeeded 6th Duke Richmond, 6th Earl March, 6th Baron Settrington. [his mother] Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond [aged 36] by marriage Duchess Richmond.

On 10th November 1868 Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond [aged 22] and Amy Mary Ricardo [aged 21] were married. He the son of Charles Gordon-Lennox 6th Duke Richmond [aged 50] and Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond [aged 44].

On 30th December 1870 [his son] Charles Gordon-Lennox 8th Duke Richmond was born to Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond [aged 25] and [his wife] Amy Mary Ricardo [aged 23]. He married 8th June 1893 Hilda Madeline Brassey Duchess Richmond and had issue.

On 23rd April 1872 [his daughter] Evelyn Gordon-Lennox was born to Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond [aged 26] and [his wife] Amy Mary Ricardo [aged 24]. She married 4th January 1896 John Richard Geers Cotterell 4th Baronet and had issue.

On 23rd August 1873 [his wife] Amy Mary Ricardo [aged 26] died.

On 13th December 1886 [his daughter] Helen Gordon-Lennox Duchess Northumberland was born to Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond [aged 40] and [his wife] Isabel Sophie Craven [aged 23]. She married 18th November 1911 her fifth cousin Alan Ian Percy 8th Duke Northumberland, son of Henry George Percy 7th Duke Northumberland and Edith Campbell Duchess Northumberland, and had issue.

On 8th March 1887 [his mother] Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond [aged 63] died.

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.
