The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 28th September 1690 James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl (age 30) and Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl (age 28).
In 1707 [his mother] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl (age 45) died.
Around 26th June 1710 [his father] John Murray 1st Duke Atholl (age 50) and Mary Ross Duchess Atholl (age 22) were married. She by marriage Duchess Atholl. The difference in their ages was 27 years. He the son of [his grandfather] John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl and [his grandmother] Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl.
On 14th November 1724 [his father] John Murray 1st Duke Atholl (age 64) died. His son James (age 34) succeeded 2nd Duke Atholl, 3rd Marquess Atholl, 4th Earl Atholl, 5th Earl Tullibardine.
On 28th April 1726 James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl (age 35) and Jane Frederick Duchess Atholl were married. She by marriage Duchess Atholl. He the son of John Murray 1st Duke Atholl and Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl.
In 1728 [his son] John Murray was born to James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl (age 37) and [his wife] Jane Frederick Duchess Atholl.
In 1729 [his son] John Murray (age 1) died.
Around 1730 [his daughter] Jean Murray was born to James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl (age 39) and [his wife] Jane Frederick Duchess Atholl.
On 13th October 1731 [his daughter] Charlotte Murray Duchess Atholl was born to James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl (age 41) and [his wife] Jane Frederick Duchess Atholl.
In 1735 [his son] James Murray was born to James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl (age 44) and [his wife] Jane Frederick Duchess Atholl.

On 1st February 1736 James Stanley 10th Earl of Derby (age 71) died. His sixth cousin Edward (age 46) succeeded 11th Earl Derby. A rare succession; they shared a great great great great grand-parent. His first cousin once removed James (age 45) succeeded 7th Baron Strange Knockin.

The difference in their ages was 27 years. She the daughter of James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl (age 56) and [his wife] Jane Frederick Duchess Atholl. He the son of John Lindsay 19th Earl of Crawford, 3rd Earl of Lindsay. They were third cousin once removed.

On 23rd October 1753 [his son-in-law] John Murray 3rd Duke Atholl (age 24) and [his daughter] Charlotte Murray Duchess Atholl (age 22) were married. She the daughter of James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl (age 63) and [his wife] Jane Frederick Duchess Atholl. They were first cousins.
On 8th January 1764 James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl (age 73) died. His nephew [his son-in-law] John (age 34) succeeded 3rd Duke Atholl, 4th Marquess Atholl, 5th Earl Atholl, 6th Earl Tullibardine. [his daughter] Charlotte Murray Duchess Atholl (age 32) by marriage Duchess Atholl. His daughter Charlotte succeeded 8th Baroness Strange Knockin.
