Biography of John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe 1801-1855

On 30th March 1799 [his father] James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 1st Baron Wharncliffe [aged 22] and [his mother] Elizabeth Caroline Mary Crichton Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Crichton 1st Earl Erne [aged 68] and [his grandmother] Mary Caroline Hervey Countess Erne [aged 46]. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 20th April 1801 John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe was born to [his father] James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 1st Baron Wharncliffe [aged 24] and [his mother] Elizabeth Caroline Mary Crichton Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 23].

In 1825 John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe [aged 23] and Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 20] were married. She the daughter of Dudley Ryder 1st Earl of Harrowby [aged 62] and Susanna Leveson-Gower Countess Harrowby Lincolnshire [aged 52]. They were third cousin once removed.

On 17th October 1826 [his daughter] Mary Caroline Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie Marchioness Drogheda was born to John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe [aged 25] and [his wife] Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 22]. She married 25th August 1847 her third cousin Henry Seymour Moore 3rd Marquess Drogheda.

On 15th December 1827 [his son] Edward Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 1st Earl Wharncliffe was born to John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe [aged 26] and [his wife] Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 23]. He married 1855 his sixth cousin Susan Charlotte Lascelles Countess Wharncliffe, daughter of Henry Lascelles 3rd Earl Harewood and Louisa Thynne Countess Harewood.

On 23rd July 1829 [his son] Francis Dudley Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie was born to John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe [aged 28] and [his wife] Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 25]. He married 28th August 1855 Maria Elizabeth Martin and had issue.

In 1832 George Howard 7th Earl Carlisle [aged 29] was elected MP West Riding of Yorkshire which seat he held until 1841. In 1835 his re-election was unsuccessfully opposed by the Hon. John Struart-Wortley [aged 30] (afterwards second Baron Wharncliffe) in the tory interest.

On 16th January 1833 [his son] James Frederick Henry Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie was born to John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe [aged 31] and [his wife] Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 28].

On 19th December 1845 [his father] James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 1st Baron Wharncliffe [aged 69] died. He was buried at the Church of St Leonard, Wortley [Map].His son John [aged 44] succeeded 2nd Baron Wharncliffe of Wortley in Yorkshire. [his wife] Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 41] by marriage Baroness Wharncliffe of Wortley in Yorkshire.

On 25th August 1847 [his son-in-law] Henry Seymour Moore 3rd Marquess Drogheda [aged 22] and [his daughter] Mary Caroline Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie Marchioness Drogheda [aged 20] were married. She by marriage Marchioness Drogheda. They were third cousins. He a great x 4 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 26th December 1847 [his father-in-law] Dudley Ryder 1st Earl of Harrowby [aged 85] died. His son [his brother-in-law] Dudley [aged 49] succeeded 2nd Earl of Harrowby, 3rd Baron Harrowby of Harrowby in Lincolnshire. Frances Stuart Countess Harrowby Lincolnshire by marriage Countess of Harrowby.

In 1855 [his son] Edward Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 1st Earl Wharncliffe [aged 27] and [his daughter-in-law] Susan Charlotte Lascelles Countess Wharncliffe [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of Henry Lascelles 3rd Earl Harewood [aged 57] and Louisa Thynne Countess Harewood [aged 53]. They were sixth cousins.

On 28th August 1855 [his son] Francis Dudley Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie [aged 26] and [his daughter-in-law] Maria Elizabeth Martin [aged 22] were married.

On 22nd October 1855 John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe [aged 54] died. He was buried at the Church of St Leonard, Wortley [Map].His son Edward [aged 27] succeeded 3rd Baron Wharncliffe of Wortley in Yorkshire.

Elizabeth Caroline Mary Crichton Baroness Wharncliffe: In 1778 she was born to John Crichton 1st Earl Erne and Mary Caroline Hervey Countess Erne. On 30th March 1799 James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 1st Baron Wharncliffe and she were married. She the daughter of John Crichton 1st Earl Erne and Mary Caroline Hervey Countess Erne. They were fifth cousin once removed. On 23rd April 1856 she died. She was buried at the Church of St Leonard, Wortley [Map].

Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe: On 16th April 1804 she was born to Dudley Ryder 1st Earl of Harrowby and Susanna Leveson-Gower Countess Harrowby Lincolnshire. In 1825 John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe and she were married. She the daughter of Dudley Ryder 1st Earl of Harrowby and Susanna Leveson-Gower Countess Harrowby Lincolnshire. They were third cousin once removed. On 19th December 1845 James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 1st Baron Wharncliffe died. He was buried at the Church of St Leonard, Wortley [Map].His son John succeeded 2nd Baron Wharncliffe of Wortley in Yorkshire. She by marriage Baroness Wharncliffe of Wortley in Yorkshire. On 22nd August 1884 Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe died. She was buried at the Church of St Leonard, Wortley [Map].

James Frederick Henry Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie: On 16th January 1833 he was born to John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe and Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe. On 27th November 1870 James Frederick Henry Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie died. He was buried at the Church of St Leonard, Wortley [Map].

On 22nd August 1884 [his former wife] Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe [aged 80] died. She was buried at the Church of St Leonard, Wortley [Map].

[his daughter] Cecily Susan Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie Baroness Montagu was born to John Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie 2nd Baron Wharncliffe and Georgiana Elizabeth Ryder Baroness Wharncliffe. She married 4th August 1865 her fifth cousin Henry John Montagu-Douglas-Scott 1st Baron Montagu Beaulieu, son of Walter Scott 5th Duke Buccleuch 7th Duke Queensberry and Charlotte Anne Thynne Duchess Buccleuch Duchess Queensbury, and had issue.
