Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

In 1266 Máel Coluim II Earl of Fife died. His son Colban succeeded Earl Fife.

Around 1271 Colban Earl of Fife died. His son Donnchadh succeeded 3rd Earl Fife. The date os his death subject to discussion. G.W.S. Barrow gives 1272, but Bannerman gives 1270.

In 1288 Donnchadh 3rd Earl Fife died. His son Duncan succeeded 4th Earl Fife.

In 1361 Robert Stewart 1st Duke Albany [aged 21] was created 1st Earl Fife. Margaret Graham 3rd Countess Menteith [aged 27] by marriage Countess Fife.

In 1759 William Duff 1st Earl Fife [aged 62] was created 1st Earl Fife.

On 30th September 1763 William Duff 1st Earl Fife [aged 66] died. His son James [aged 34] succeeded 2nd Earl Fife.

In 1809 James Duff 2nd Earl Fife [aged 79] died without issue at Fife House Whitehall Palace. His brother Alexander [aged 77] succeeded 3rd Earl Fife.

On 17th April 1811 Alexander Duff 3rd Earl Fife [aged 79] died. His son James [aged 34] succeeded 4th Earl Fife. Maria Caroline Manners by marriage Countess Fife.

On 16th March 1846 James Duff 5th Earl Fife [aged 31] and Agnes Georgiana Elizabeth Hay Countess Fife [aged 16] were married. She by marriage Countess Fife. She the daughter of William Hay 18th Earl Erroll [aged 45] and Elizabeth Fitz-Clarence Countess Erroll [aged 45].

On 9th March 1857 James Duff 4th Earl Fife [aged 80] died. His nephew James [aged 42] succeeded 5th Earl Fife.

On 7th August 1879 James Duff 5th Earl Fife [aged 65] died. His son Alexander [aged 29] succeeded 6th Earl Fife.
