Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans

Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

Biography of Sancho "Strong" II King Leon II King Castile 1037-1072

In or before 1033 [his father] Ferdinand "Great" I King Leon (age 17) and [his mother] Sancha Astur Leonese (age 14) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Alfonso "Noble" V King Leon and [his grandmother] Elvira González Queen Consort Leon. He the son of [his grandfather] Sancho "Great" III King Pamplona (age 38) and [his grandmother] Muniadona García Queen Consort Pamplona. They were half second cousins.

In 1037 [his uncle] Bermudo III King Leon (age 22) died. His half second cousin [his father] Ferdinand (age 22) succeeded I King Leon.

Around 1037 Sancho "Strong" II King Leon II King Castile was born to [his father] Ferdinand "Great" I King Leon (age 22) and [his mother] Sancha Astur Leonese (age 19).

On 24th December 1065 [his father] Ferdinand "Great" I King Leon (age 50) died. His son Sancho (age 28) succeeded II King Castile.

On 27th November 1067 [his mother] Sancha Astur Leonese (age 49) died.

In 1069 [his brother] Alfonso "Brave" VI King Leon VI King Castile (age 28) and [his sister-in-law] Agnes Poitiers Queen Consort Leon Queen Consort Castile (age 10) were married. She the daughter of Guy William Poitiers VIII Duke Aquitaine (age 44) and Mateoda Duchess Aquitaine. He the son of [his father] Ferdinand "Great" I King Leon and [his mother] Sancha Astur Leonese.

On 12th January 1072 Sancho "Strong" II King Leon II King Castile (age 35) was crowned II King Leon. He reigned for only nine months.
