The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

In 1661 [his father] James Cecil 3rd Earl Salisbury (age 13) and [his mother] Margaret Manners Countess of Salisbury were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Manners 8th Earl of Rutland (age 56) and [his grandmother] Frances Montagu Countess Rutland (age 47). They were fifth cousin once removed.

On or before 6th November 1670, the date he was baptised, Robert Cecil was born to James Cecil 3rd Earl Salisbury (age 22) and Margaret Manners Countess of Salisbury.

In 1682 [his mother] Margaret Manners Countess of Salisbury died.

In June 1683 [his father] James Cecil 3rd Earl Salisbury (age 35) died. His son [his brother] James (age 17) succeeded 4th Earl Salisbury.

Before 1689 Richard Hale (age 29) and [his future wife] Eizabeth Meynell were married.

On or after 28th July 1690, the date of the licence, Robert Cecil (age 19) and Eizabeth Meynell were married. They had three sons and two daughters. He the son of James Cecil 3rd Earl Salisbury and Margaret Manners Countess of Salisbury.

Around 1695 [his son] Bishop Charles Cecil was born to Robert Cecil (age 24) and [his wife] Eizabeth Meynell.

On 30th April 1701 Robert Cecil (age 30) was elected MP Castle Rising at a by-election. He did not stand at the subsequent second general election of 1701.

In 1702 Robert Cecil (age 31) was appointed a commissioner for trade and plantations at a salary of £1,000 p.a.

In 1708 Robert Cecil (age 37) was elected MP Wootton Bassett. He did not stand at the 1710 British general election.

On 23rd February 1716 Robert Cecil (age 45) died.
