Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 15th April 1833 Samuel John Brooke-Pechell 3rd Baronet [aged 47] and Julia Maria Petre Lady Brooke-Pechell [aged 43] were married at her mother's [aged 63] house in Grosvenor Square, Belgravia. She by marriage Lady Brooke-Pechell of Paglesham in Essex.

On 3rd November 1849 Samuel John Brooke-Pechell 3rd Baronet [aged 64] died without issue at Hill Street, Berkeley Square. His brother George [aged 60] succeeded 4th Baronet Brooke-Pechell of Pagelsham in Essex.

On 29th June 1860 George Brooke-Pechell 4th Baronet [aged 70] died without surviving male issue at 27 Hill Street, Berkeley Square. His first cousin once removed George [aged 41] succeeded 5th Baronet Brooke-Pechell of Paglesham in Essex.

On 8th July 1897 George Samuel Brooke-Pechell 5th Baronet [aged 78] died. His son Samuel [aged 44] succeeded 6th Baronet Brooke-Pechell of Paglesham in Essex.

On 9th February 1904 Samuel George Brooke-Pechell 6th Baronet [aged 51] died. His brother Augustus [aged 46] succeeded 7th Baronet Brooke-Pechell of Paglesham in Essex.

On 6th October 1937 Augustus Alexander Brooke-Pechell 7th Baronet [aged 80] died. His son Paul [aged 48] succeeded 8th Baronet Brooke-Pechell of Paglesham in Essex.

In 1972 Paul Brooke-Pechell 8th Baronet [aged 83] died. His second cousin once removed Ronald [aged 53] succeeded 9th Baronet Brooke-Pechell of Paglesham in Essex.
