On 1st January 898 Odo I King West Franks (age 41) died. [her future husband] Charles "Simple" III King West Francia (age 18) succeeded III King West Francia.

Death of King Alfred the Great

On 26th October 899 [her grandfather] King Alfred "The Great" of Wessex (age 50) died at Winchester, Hampshire [Map]. He was buried at Hyde Abbey [Map]. His son [her father] Edward (age 25) succeeded King Anglo Saxons. Ecgwynn Unknown Queen Consort Anglo Saxons by marriage Queen Consort Anglo Saxons.

Around 900 [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons (age 26) and [her mother] Aelfflaed Wiltshire Queen Anglo Saxons (age 30) were married. Battle of the Holme

On 13th December 902 Æthelwold Prince Wessex revolted against his cousin [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons (age 28) helped by the Danes.

Sigehelm Earldorman Kent was killed fighting for King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons.

Brihtsige Wessex, Ysopa Wessex, Oscetel Wessex and Eohric King East Anglia were killed fighting for Æthelwold Prince Wessex.

He married 939 Gerberga Saxon Ottonian Queen Consort West Francia, daughter of Henry "Fowler" I King East Francia and Matilda Ringelheim Queen Consort East Francia, and had issue.

Death of King Edward the Elder

On 17th July 924 [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons (age 50) died. He was buried in St Oswald's Priory [Map]. His son [her half-brother] Æthelstan (age 30) succeeded King Anglo Saxons. His son Æthelstan succeeded I King Anglo Saxons.

Coronation of King Athelstan

On 4th September 925 [her half-brother] King Æthelstan I of England (age 31) was crowned I King Anglo Saxons by Archbishop Athelm, possibly at a site now known as the Coronation Stone, Kingston upon Thames [Map], or possibly in front of St Mary's chapel, which stood at the south-east of All Saint's Church, Kingston upon Thames [Map]. It was the first coronation in which the King wore a Crown rather than a helmet.

In 929 [her brother-in-law] Otto I King Germany I King Italy Holy Roman Emperor (age 16) and [her sister] Eadgyth Wessex Queen Consort Germany were married. She the daughter of [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons and [her mother] Aelfflaed Wiltshire Queen Anglo Saxons (age 59). He the son of Henry "Fowler" I King East Francia (age 53) and Matilda Ringelheim Queen Consort East Francia.

On 7th October 929 [her husband] Charles "Simple" III King West Francia (age 50) died.

Around 932 Æthelstan Half King (age 22) was appointed Earldorman East Anglia by [her half-brother] King Æthelstan I of England (age 38).

In 933 [her brother] Edwin the Ætheling was drowned at sea. The circumstances of his death are unclear. Some sources say a storm caused the ship to sink, some say his brother [her half-brother] King Æthelstan I of England (age 39) sent him to sea in a leaky boat.

On 2nd July 936 Henry "Fowler" I King East Francia (age 60) died. His son [her brother-in-law] Otto (age 23) succeeded I King Germany, I Duke Saxony. [her sister] Eadgyth Wessex Queen Consort Germany by marriage Queen Consort Germany.

Battle of Brunanburh

In 937 [her half-brother] King Æthelstan I of England (age 43) and his son [her half-brother] Edmund (age 16) defeated the Scottish, Irish Viking and Strathclyde army at the Battle of Brunanburh. Two of Æthelstan's cousins, Æthelwine Wessex and Aelfwine Wessex were killed.

Archbishop Oda was present although there are no contemporary records of Oda's appearance at the battle. He is said to have miraculously provided a sword to the king when the king's own sword slipped out of its scabbard.

Death of King Athelstan

On 27th October 939 [her half-brother] King Æthelstan I of England (age 45) died in Gloucester [Map]. His half brother [her half-brother] Edmund (age 18) succeeded King of England.

In or before 943 [her half-brother] King Edmund I of England (age 21) and [her sister-in-law] Aelfgifu of Shaftesbury Queen Consort England were married. She by marriage Queen Consort England. He the son of [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons and Eadgifu Kent Queen Anglo Saxons.

In or after 944 [her half-brother] King Edmund I of England (age 23) and [her sister-in-law] Æthelflæd of Damerham Queen Consort of England were married. She by marriage Queen Consort England. He the son of [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons and Eadgifu Kent Queen Anglo Saxons.

On 26th January 946 [her sister] Eadgyth Wessex Queen Consort Germany died.

Death of King Edmund

On 26th May 946 [her half-brother] King Edmund I of England (age 25) was murdered by Leofa, an exiled thief, whilst attending mass at Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire. He was buried at Glastonbury Abbey [Map]. His brother [her half-brother] Eadred succeeded I King of England.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." In 951 Eadgifu Wessex Queen Consort West Francia died.
