Chronicle of Abbot Ralph of Coggeshall

In or before 1380 [his brother-in-law] John Strange 6th Baron Strange Knockin (age 28) and [his sister] Jane Charleton Baroness Strange Knockin (age 23) were married. She by marriage Baroness Strange Knockin. They were fourth cousins. She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

Around 1380 [his sister] Jane Charleton Baroness Strange Knockin (age 24) died.

On 7th October 1388 Roger Mortimer 4th Earl March 3rd Earl of Ulster (age 14) and [his future wife] Eleanor Holland Countess March and Ulster (age 17) were married. She by marriage Countess March, Countess of Ulster. She the daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent (age 38) and [his future mother-in-law] Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (age 38). He the son of Edmund Mortimer 3rd Earl March, Earl of Ulster and Philippa Plantagenet Countess March 2nd Countess Ulster. They were second cousin once removed. Before 19th June 1399 Edward Charleton 5th (age 29) and Eleanor Holland Countess March and Ulster (age 28) were married. She the daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent and Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (age 49). They were half third cousin once removed. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward I of England. Abdication of Richard II

On 30th September 1399 King Henry IV of England (age 32) became King of England usurping the throne of his cousin Richard II (age 32) and Richard's heir, the seven year old [his step-son] Edmund Mortimer 5th Earl of March (age 7) who was descended from Edward III's second son Lionel of Antwerp Duke of Clarence. This second usurption was to have far reaching consequences since it subsequently became the descent by which the House of York claimed precedence over the House of Lancaster being one of the causes of the Wars of the Roses.

Ralph Neville 1st Earl of Westmoreland (age 35) was appointed Earl Marshal.

Deeds of King Henry V

Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

In 1404 [his daughter] Joyce Charleton Baroness Tiptoft was born to Edward Charleton 5th (age 34) and [his wife] Eleanor Holland Countess March and Ulster (age 33). She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Edward I of England. She married (1) on or after 28th February 1422 John Tiptoft 1st Baron Tiptoft and had issue (2) after 27th January 1443 her third cousin Christopher Talbot, son of John "Old Talbot" Talbot 1st Earl of Shrewsbury and Maud Neville 6th Baroness Furnivall.

Around 1404 [his brother-in-law] Edmund Holland 4th Earl Kent (age 19) was appointed 106th Knight of the Garter by King Henry IV of England (age 36).

Before 9th August 1404 William Willoughby 5th Baron Willoughby (age 34) and [his sister-in-law] Joan Holland Duchess York (age 24) were married. She by marriage Baroness Willoughby de Eresby. She the daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent and [his mother-in-law] Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (age 54). They were fifth cousin once removed. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

In October 1405 [his wife] Eleanor Holland Countess March and Ulster (age 34) died.

After October 1405 Edward Charleton 5th (age 35) and Elizabeth Berkeley Baroness Cherleton Baroness Dudley were married. She by marriage Baroness Cherleton. They were fifth cousins. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward I of England. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King John of England.

William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

After 14th March 1420 John Sutton 1st Baron Dudley (age 19) and [his wife] Elizabeth Berkeley Baroness Cherleton Baroness Dudley were married at Dudley, Staffordshire.

In 1421 Edward Charleton 5th (age 51) died. Baron Cherleton abeyant between his daughters [his daughter] Joan Charleton Countess Tankerville (age 21) and [his daughter] Joyce Charleton Baroness Tiptoft (age 17) and their heirs.

Gilbert Talbot 3rd Baron Talbot and [his mother] Joan Stafford Baroness Cherleton and Talbot were married.
