Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

In 1666 Edward Howard 2nd Earl Carlisle [aged 19] was elected MP Morpeth.
In 1668 Edward Howard 2nd Earl Carlisle [aged 21] and Elizabeth Uvedale Countess Carlisle were married. He the son of Charles Howard 1st Earl Carlisle [aged 39] and Anne Howard Countess Carlisle. They were third cousin once removed.
Around 1669 [his son] Charles Howard 3rd Earl Carlisle was born to Edward Howard 2nd Earl Carlisle [aged 22] and [his wife] Elizabeth Uvedale Countess Carlisle. He married 1683 his third cousin Anne Capell Countess Carlisle, daughter of Arthur Capell 1st Earl Essex and Elizabeth Percy Countess Essex, and had issue.
On 2nd August 1670 [his brother-in-law] Richard Graham 1st Viscount Preston [aged 20] and [his sister] Ann Howard Viscountess Preston [aged 20] were married. She the daughter of [his father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Carlisle [aged 41] and [his mother] Anne Howard Countess Carlisle.
In 1679 Edward Howard 2nd Earl Carlisle [aged 32] was elected MP Cumberland.
On 12th May 1681 [his brother-in-law] Richard Graham 1st Viscount Preston [aged 31] was created 1st Viscount Preston. [his sister] Ann Howard Viscountess Preston [aged 31] by marriage Viscountess Preston.
In 1683 Charles Howard 3rd Earl Carlisle [aged 14] and Anne Capell Countess Carlisle [aged 9] were married. She the daughter of Arthur Capell 1st Earl Essex [aged 50] and Elizabeth Percy Countess Essex [aged 47]. He the son of Edward Howard 2nd Earl Carlisle [aged 36] and Elizabeth Uvedale Countess Carlisle. They were third cousins.
On 24th February 1685 [his father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Carlisle [aged 56] died. He was buried at York Minster [Map]. His son Edward [aged 38] succeeded 2nd Earl Carlisle. [his wife] Elizabeth Uvedale Countess Carlisle by marriage Countess Carlisle.
On 23rd April 1692 Edward Howard 2nd Earl Carlisle [aged 45] died. His son Charles [aged 23] succeeded 3rd Earl Carlisle. Anne Capell Countess Carlisle [aged 18] by marriage Countess Carlisle.
