The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." In 1710 Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 39) was created 1st Duke Kent, 1st Marquess Kent, 1st Viscount Gooderich. Jemima Crew Marchioness Kent (age 34) by marriage Marchioness Kent.
On 24th March 1729 Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 58) and Sophia Bentinck Duchess Kent (age 27) were married. She by marriage Duchess Kent. The difference in their ages was 30 years. She the daughter of William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland and Jane Martha Temple Countess Portland (age 57). He the son of Anthony Grey 11th Earl Kent and Mary Lucas Countess Kent.
On 5th June 1740 Henry Grey 1st Duke Kent (age 69) died without surviving male issue. Duke Kent, Marquess Kent, Earl Kent and Viscount Gooderich extinct. His granddaughter Jemima (age 16) succeeded 2nd Marchioness Grey.

On 9th October 1934 Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent (age 31) was created 1st Duke Kent.
On 29th November 1934 Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent (age 31) and Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 27) were married at Westminster Abbey [Map]. She by marriage Duchess Kent. The wedding was followed by a Greek ceremony in the private chapel at Buckingham Palace [Map]. She had eight bridesmaids: her first cousins Princess Irene Glücksburg (age 30), He the son of King George V of the United Kingdom (age 69) and Victoria Mary Teck Queen Consort England (age 67). They were second cousins. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King George II of Great Britain and Ireland.
On 25th August 1942 the Dunbeath Air Crash at Eagle's Rock [Map] near Dunbeath killed 14 of 15 passengers and crew, including Prince George, Duke of Kent, who was on duty as an Air Commodore in the Royal Air Force on a mission to Reykjavik. A Royal Air Force Board of Inquiry determined that the crash was the result of a navigational error by the crew.

On 8th June 1961 Edward Windsor 2nd Duke Kent (age 25) and Katharine Worsley Duchess of Kent (age 28) were married at York Minster [Map]. She by marriage Duchess Kent. He the son of Prince George Windsor 1st Duke Kent and Princess Marina Glücksburg Duchess Kent (age 54).
