In 1536, two weeks after the execution of Anne Boleyn, her brother George and four others, Lancelot du Carle, wrote an extraordinary letter that described Anne's life, and her trial and execution, to which he was a witness. This book presents a new translation of that letter, with additional material from other contemporary sources such as Letters, Hall's and Wriothesley's Chronicles, the pamphlets of Wynkyn the Worde, the Memorial of George Constantyne, the Portuguese Letter and the Baga de Secrets, all of which are provided in Appendices.

On 16th August 1284 [his father] King Philip IV of France and [his mother] Joan Blois I Queen Navarre were married. She by marriage Queen Consort of France. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Henry I King Navarre and [his grandmother] Blanche Capet Queen Navarre. He the son of King Philip III of France and Isabella Barcelona Queen Consort France.

On 19th June 1294 Charles IV King France I King Navarre was born to [his father] King Philip IV of France and [his mother] Joan Blois I Queen Navarre.

On 2nd April 1305 [his mother] Joan Blois I Queen Navarre died.

On 21st September 1305 [his brother] Louis X King France I Navarre and [his sister-in-law] Margaret of Burgundy Queen Consort France were married. She the daughter of Robert II Duke Burgundy and Agnes Capet Duchess Burgundy. He the son of [his father] King Philip IV of France and [his mother] Joan Blois I Queen Navarre.

In 1307 Charles IV King France I King Navarre and Blanche of Burgundy Queen Consort France were married. She by marriage Queen Consort of France. She the daughter of Otto Ivrea IV Count Burgundy and Mahaut Artois Countess Burgundy. He the son of King Philip IV of France and Joan Blois I Queen Navarre.

Marriage of King Edward II and Isabella of France

On 28th January 1308 [his brother-in-law] King Edward II of England and [his sister] Isabella of France Queen Consort England were married at Boulogne sur Mer. She the daughter of [his father] King Philip IV of France and [his mother] Joan Blois I Queen Navarre. He the son of King Edward I of England and Eleanor of Castile Queen Consort England.

On 25th February 1308 [his brother-in-law] King Edward II of England was crowned II King of England at Westminster Abbey by Henry Woodlock, Bishop of Winchester. [his sister] Isabella of France Queen Consort England was crowned Queen Consort England.

Piers Gaveston 1st Earl Cornwall carried the Royal Crown.

William Marshal 1st Baron Marshal carried the Gilt Spurs.

Humphrey Bohun 4th Earl Hereford 3rd Earl Essex carried the Royal Sceptre.

In January 1314 [his daughter] Philip Capet was born to Charles IV King France I King Navarre and [his wife] Blanche of Burgundy Queen Consort France. She died aged eight in 1322.

On 29th November 1314 [his father] King Philip IV of France died. [his brother] Louis X King France I Navarre succeeded X King France: Capet. [his sister-in-law] Margaret of Burgundy Queen Consort France by marriage Queen Consort of France although she was in prison for adultery at the time and died four months later.

In 1315 [his daughter] Joan Capet was born to Charles IV King France I King Navarre and [his wife] Blanche of Burgundy Queen Consort France. She died aged six in 1321.

On 5th June 1316 [his brother] Louis X King France I Navarre died. On 15th November 1316 [his nephew] John "The Posthumous" I King France succeeded posthumously I King France: Capet.

On 20th November 1316 [his nephew] John "The Posthumous" I King France died. [his brother] Philip V King France I King Navarre succeeded V King France: Capet. He also claimed the Kingdom of Navarre although he had no hereditary right to do so since the Kingdom of Navarre was subject to inheritance by the female as well as male line meaning the four year old [his niece] Joan Capet II Queen Navarre was successor by right. The Navarese didn't recognise his claim.

On 17th May 1321 [his daughter] Joan Capet died.

King Philip V of France Dies King Charles IV Succeeds

On 3rd January 1322 [his brother] Philip V King France I King Navarre died. Charles IV King France I King Navarre succeeded IV King France: Capet, I King Navarre although his niece was by right successor to the Kingdom of Navarre.

In March 1322 [his daughter] Philip Capet died.

On 19th May 1322 Charles IV King France I King Navarre and Blanche of Burgundy Queen Consort France marriage annulled as a consequence of her adultery. In 1313 Isabella of France Queen Consort England gave gifts of coin-purses to her sisters-in-law Blanche of Burgundy Queen Consort France and Margaret of Burgundy Queen Consort France. The coin-purses were subsequently seen by Isabella to be in the possession of the Norman knights Gautier and Philippe d'Aunay. When Isabella visited her father King Philip IV of France again in 1314 she informed him she suspected the two sisters to be having affairs with the two knights. The two knights were arrested, confessed to adultery under torture, and were executed. The two women were sentenced to life imprisonment at Château Gaillard. Margaret's husband Louis X King France I Navarre became King in Nov 1314 whilst she was in prison; she became Queen of France by marriage. Somewhat conveniently she died five months later. Blanche of Burgundy Queen Consort France remained in prison until her husband Charles IV King France I King Navarre became King in 1322 at which time he had their marriage annulled.

She the daughter of Henry Luxemburg VII Holy Roman Emperor and Margaret Brabant Countess Luxemburg and Namur. He the son of King Philip IV of France and Joan Blois I Queen Navarre.

In March 1324 [his daughter] Louis Capet was born to Charles IV King France I King Navarre and [his wife] Marie Luxemburg Queen Consort France. She died aged less than one years old.

On 26th March 1324 [his wife] Marie Luxemburg Queen Consort France died at Issoudun.

In 1326 [his former wife] Blanche of Burgundy Queen Consort France died.

Death of Charles IV of France Sucession of Philip VI

On 1st February 1328 Charles IV King France I King Navarre died. On 1st April 1328 King Philip "Fortunate" VI of France succeeded VI King France: Capet Valois. The succession somewhat complicated by Charles' wife Blanche of Burgundy Queen Consort France being pregnant. The child Blanche Capet was born two months later on 1st April 1328. A girl child therefore excluded from the succession confirming Philip's as King. Charles the last of the House of Capet. Philip the first of the House of Valois. Joan Capet II Queen Navarre succeeded II Queen Navarre. Her husband Philip "Noble" III King Navarre by marriage III King Navarre.

On 1st April 1328 [his daughter] Blanche Capet was born to Charles IV King France I King Navarre and [his former wife] Joan Évreux Queen Consort France.

On 4th March 1371 [his former wife] Joan Évreux Queen Consort France died.
