William of Worcester's Chronicle of England
William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 4th September 1286 John Mowbray 2nd Baron Mowbray was born to [his father] Roger Mowbray 1st Baron Mowbray [aged 29] and [his mother] Rohese Clare Baroness Mowbray [aged 31]. He a great x 3 grandson of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England.
On 21st November 1297 [his father] Roger Mowbray 1st Baron Mowbray [aged 40] died. He was buried at Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire [Map]. His son John [aged 11] succeeded 2nd Baron Mowbray.
In 1305 [his daughter] Christiana de Mowbray was born to John Mowbray 2nd Baron Mowbray [aged 18] and [his future wife] Aline de Braose Baroness Mowbray at Hovingham. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England. She married in or before 1338 William de Plumpton and had issue.
On 22nd May 1306 the Feast of the Swans was a collective knighting of two hundred and sixty seven men at Westminster Abbey [Map].
At the feast, following the knightings, two swans were brought in. King Edward I of England [aged 66] swore before God and the swans to avenge the death of John Comyn 3rd Lord Baddenoch - see Murder of John "Red" Comyn.

Before 26th February 1322 [his son] John Mowbray 3rd Baron Mowbray [aged 11] and [his daughter-in-law] Maud Holland 3rd Baroness Holand, Baroness Lovel [aged 12] were married. On 16th March 1322 the rebel army led by Thomas Plantagenet 2nd Earl of Leicester, 2nd Earl Lancaster, Earl of Salisbury and Lincoln [aged 44] attempted to cross the bridge over the River Ure (between Ripon and York) at Boroughbridge Bridge [Map]. Their path was blocked by forces loyal to the King led by Andrew Harclay 1st Earl Carlisle [aged 52]. Bartholomew Badlesmere 1st Baron Badlesmere [aged 46], Roger Mortimer 1st Earl March [aged 34], John Botetort 1st Baron Botetort [aged 57] and John Maltravers 1st Baron Maltravers [aged 32] fought for the rebels. Roger Mortimer 1st Earl March was imprisoned at Tower of London [Map].

Roger Clifford 2nd Baron Clifford [aged 22] was hanged. His brother Robert [aged 16] succeeded 3rd Baron de Clifford.
John Mowbray 2nd Baron Mowbray [aged 35] was hanged. He was buried at Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire [Map]. His son John [aged 11] succeeded 3rd Baron Mowbray.
Life of Edward II of Carnarvan by a Monk of Bridlington. 23rd March 1322. Furthermore, on the following day, at York, the lords John de Mowbray [aged 35], Roger de Clifford [aged 22], and Jocelin Deyville were, by the aforementioned record and process, drawn and hanged with iron chains.
