This William boldly excommunicated to their faces William de Beauchamp [aged 50] and his accomplices, who had destroyed the walls of the cemetery and were plundering the goods of the church during the war, though they were armed and he was unarmed. For this reason, none of them died in accordance with the Christian religion and the rites of Christians. Indeed, on that same day many of them were killed by men of the abbey. One of them, a knight surnamed d'Abetot, who was killed by them, was buried at Elmley outside the cemetery and has still not been reconciled. He also courageously took the castle at Bengeworth [Map], which stood at the end of the bridge, from the same William and utterly destroyed it, and caused the cemetery there to be consecrated.

Viriliter etiam castellum quod erat Bengewrthe ad caput pontis contra eundem Willelmum obtinuit et funditus destruxit, et cemeterium ibidem consecrari fecit.
