Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth 1772-1854

On 27th August 1763 [his father] John Wallop 2nd Earl Portsmouth [aged 21] and [his mother] Urania Fellowes [aged 21] were married.

On 26th June 1772 Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth was born to John Wallop 2nd Earl Portsmouth [aged 29] and Urania Fellowes [aged 30]. He was identified as an unsound mind from an early age. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University [Map].

In 1794 Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 21] inherited the estates of his maternal uncle Henry Arthur Fellowes taking the surname and arms of Fellowes.

On 30th January 1795 Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 22] and Frances Sherard [aged 20] were married. He the son of John Wallop 2nd Earl Portsmouth [aged 52] and Urania Fellowes [aged 53].

On 16th May 1797 [his father] John Wallop 2nd Earl Portsmouth [aged 54] died. His son [his brother] John [aged 29] succeeded 3rd Earl Portsmouth, 3rd Viscount Lymington, 3rd Baron Wallop of Farley Wallop Hampshire.

On 29th October 1799 [his son] Henry Arthur Wallop Fellowes was born to Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 27] and [his wife] Frances Sherard [aged 24].

On 19th November 1799 John Wallop 3rd Earl Portsmouth [aged 31] and Grace Norton Countess Portsmouth [aged 47] were married. She by marriage Countess Portsmouth. She the sister of one of his trustees William Norton 2nd Baron Grantley [aged 57]. She being forty-seven years old at the time of the marriage was considered unlikely to have children which his brother Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 27] considered desriable given John's mental condition. He the son of John Wallop 2nd Earl Portsmouth and Urania Fellowes [aged 57].

On 29th January 1812 [his mother] Urania Fellowes [aged 70] died.

On 7th March 1814 [his brother] John Wallop 3rd Earl Portsmouth [aged 46] and [his sister-in-law] Mary Anne Hanson Countess Portsmouth were married. The marriage had been arranged in secret by her father John Hanson who was one of John's trustees. George "Lord Byron" 6th Baron Byron [aged 26], another of John Hanson's clients, gave the bride away. She had an adulterous affair with William Alder with whom she had three children. In 1828 the marriage was annulled and the children declared illegitimate as a consequence of a de lunatico inquirendo instigated by his nephew Henry Arthur Wallop Fellowes [aged 14]. He the son of John Wallop 2nd Earl Portsmouth and Urania Fellowes.

On 4th July 1817 [his future brother-in-law] Hugh Fortescue 2nd Earl Fortescue [aged 34] and Susan Ryder [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of Dudley Ryder 1st Earl of Harrowby [aged 54] and Susanna Leveson-Gower Countess Harrowby Lincolnshire [aged 44]. He the son of [his future father-in-law] Hugh Fortescue 1st Earl Fortescue [aged 64] and [his future mother-in-law] Hester Granville Countess Fortescue [aged 51]. They were fourth cousins.

On or before 15th March 1819 [his daughter] Henrietta Caroline Fellowes was born to Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 46] and [his wife] Frances Sherard [aged 44].

On 15th March 1819 [his wife] Frances Sherard [aged 44] died.

On 24th June 1820 Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 47] and Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth [aged 33] were married. She the daughter of Hugh Fortescue 1st Earl Fortescue [aged 67] and Hester Granville Countess Fortescue [aged 54]. He the son of John Wallop 2nd Earl Portsmouth and Urania Fellowes. They were sixth cousins.

In 1822 [his daughter] Hester Urania Fellowes was born to Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 49] and [his wife] Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth [aged 35]. She married 26th October 1847 Ralph Merrik Leeke of Longford Hall, Shropshire.

On 11th January 1825 [his son] Isaac Newton Wallop 5th Earl of Portsmouth was born to Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 52] and [his wife] Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth [aged 38]. He married 15th February 1855 his third cousin once removed Eveline Howard Herbert Countess Portsmouth, daughter of Henry John George Herbert 3rd Earl Carnarvon and Henrietta Anna Howard-Molyneux-Howard Countess Carnarvon, and had issue.

In 1830 William Courtenay 11th Earl Devon [aged 22] and [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Fortescue Countess Devon [aged 28] were married. She the daughter of [his father-in-law] Hugh Fortescue 1st Earl Fortescue [aged 76] and [his mother-in-law] Hester Granville Countess Fortescue [aged 64]. He the son of William Courtenay 10th Earl Devon [aged 52] and Henrietta Leslie Pepys Countess Devon [aged 52]. They were sixth cousins.

In 1841 [his brother-in-law] Hugh Fortescue 2nd Earl Fortescue [aged 57] and Elizabeth Geale Countess Fortescue were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] Hugh Fortescue 1st Earl Fortescue [aged 87] and [his mother-in-law] Hester Granville Countess Fortescue [aged 75].

On 17th February 1847 [his son] Henry Arthur Wallop Fellowes [aged 47] died.

On 26th October 1847 [his son-in-law] Ralph Merrik Leeke of Longford Hall, Shropshire [aged 34] and Hester Urania Fellowes [aged 25] were married. She the daughter of Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 75] and Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth [aged 61].

On 8th June 1852 [his son-in-law] Dudley Francis Fortescue [aged 31] and Camilla Eleanor Wallop were married. She the daughter of Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 79] and Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth [aged 65]. He the son of Hugh Fortescue 2nd Earl Fortescue [aged 69] and Susan Ryder. They were first cousins.

On 14th July 1853 [his brother] John Wallop 3rd Earl Portsmouth [aged 85] died. He was buried at St John's Church, Farleigh Wallop. His brother Newton [aged 81] succeeded 4th Earl Portsmouth, 4th Viscount Lymington, 4th Baron Wallop of Farley Wallop Hampshire. He died six months later. [his wife] Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth [aged 66] by marriage Countess Portsmouth.

On 9th January 1854 Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth [aged 81] died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Eggesford. His son Isaac [aged 28] succeeded 5th Earl Portsmouth, 5th Viscount Lymington, 5th Baron Wallop of Farley Wallop Hampshire.

On 20th May 1854 [his former wife] Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth [aged 67] died.

[his daughter] Catherine Henrietta Fellowes was born to Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth and Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth. She married Seymour Phillips Allen of Cresselly, Pembrokeshire.

[his daughter] Camilla Eleanor Wallop was born to Newton Wallop aka Fellowes 4th Earl of Portsmouth and Catherine Fortescue Countess Portsmouth. She married 8th June 1852 her first cousin Dudley Francis Fortescue, son of Hugh Fortescue 2nd Earl Fortescue and Susan Ryder.
